Saving Diagram
Objects as a Function Symbol
This topic explains how to save selected, connected function objects and comment graphics in a diagram as a function symbol.
Prerequisites
- Your user account must have the Edi Symbol Library permission.
Procedure
In the diagram window, select the functions, and comment graphics that you want to be included in the symbol, press Space Bar and enter Save As Function Symbol (or click the Save As Function Symbol action on the Automate ribbon tab); the Save As Function Symbol dialog box displays.
Follow one of the following procedures: If you want to...
Do the following:
Save the symbol in a new symbol library.
Select “Create New”.
Specify the library name.
Specify the Domain from the available list.
Save the symbol in an existing symbol library.
Select “Select Existing Library”.
Select the library in the Library pane.
If you want to save the symbol in a specific sub-folder of the symbol library, select it in the Folder window.
Click OK.
Capital Symbol Designer opens and displays the new symbols in the new or existing library.
Results
The system generates one symbol for each selected function.
If more than one instance of a single function is selected, a separate symbol is created for each instance.
The symbols include the selected function and ports.
The graphics of the symbols include any comment graphics, text and comment symbols from the selected objects.
The following objects are included in the symbols: Parameterized functions (become graphical shapes in the symbols and maintain any properties)
All types of comment graphics and texts (note that graphic attributes such as line thickness and color are retained)
Comment symbols
- Signals, messages, highways, and blocks are not included in the symbols.
