Interface Control Definitions (ICDs)

You can export the ICD definitions from Teamcenter and import the data into Capital Device Modeler to create a skeletal definition of the ICD which you can embellish in Capital Device Modeler, for example, add pins and signals.

This video demonstrates the tasks to synchronize the Teamcenter and Capital Device Modeler data:

The export is run using the Teamcenter workflow and can be triggered by state transitions, for example, readiness of a system, which generates an ICD XML file that represents all the ICDs from the selected scope of the export, such as one or more systems.

The import into Capital Device Modeler is initiated by a Capital Library Synchronizer task. The task monitors a folder location for modified ICD XML files, and then imports the updated files.

You can specify a cron expression to determine when or how often the task is run to ensure that the latest ICDs and properties are available to place in Capital Cabling Designer. See “Library Synchronizer Configuration Dialog Box” in the Capital Component Manager User Guide.

Note

ICDs will be available to the appropriate Capital Cabling Designer design based on the project and system in the Teamcenter breakdown that is specified in the Applicability field on the ICD. See also “Creating an Interface Control Document ICD” in the Capital Device Modeler User Guide.

Prerequisites

  • Open the system in Teamcenter containing the ICDs for your design.

  • The Teamcenter project is configured with attributes, properties, and applicability, to determine which vessels and Capital Cabling Designer system designs are relevant to the ICD.

Procedure

  1. From Teamcenter, select the required design in the system breakdown structure.

  2. Click the Overview tab.

  3. Click the Manage drop-down menu and select Submit to Workflow.The Submit to Workflow dialog box is displayed.

  4. Choose the All or Assigned radio button to display all the templates or only those templates assigned to your user account.

  5. Click the Template dropdown list and select the Create System Devices List template.

  6. Click Submit to start the export.An XML file is generated containing the ICD definitions of all the equipment in the selected system.

  7. To import the XML file to Capital Device Modeler, you can schedule updates periodically using Capital Library Synchronizer.The Teamcenter EDA Library configures the attribute and property mapping on components used to link between the component types in Teamcenter and the Capital software. The transfer is initiated from the Capital software during scheduled events or on‑demand. Tasks created in Capital Library Synchronizer invoke a request for modified parts identified in the EDA Library, which are then imported into Capital Component Manager.

Results

  • In Capital Device Modeler, the ICDs from the selected system in Teamcenter are available.

  • The system transfers the following properties with the ICD definitions to associate the Teamcenter item with the object and track its usage back to the product in Teamcenter. PDM_ID

  • In Capital Cabling Designer, the ICD definitions are updated and any unplaced ICDs are displayed in the Unplaced folder on the ICD tab.
