Example of Uncombining Devices

This example shows the impact of uncombining one device from a combined device, the impact of uncombining all devices in a combined device, and the impact of the “Automatically delete obsolete wiring after unplace or uncombine” project preference.

Here is a ground slot GND-LR. It contains two ground devices.

• GND-DR-RT is not combined.

• GND-LR is a combined ground device.

The signal map for the slot is as follows.

If you uncombine GND-LIFTGATE LATCH from GND-LR:

The action uncombines GND-LIFTGATE LATCH from GND-LR but leaves it placed in the same slot.

The signal map for the slot shows that the uncombined ground device remains mapped to the same connector cavity. This is also the case when uncombining normal devices.

You can uncombine all devices that are in GND-LR.

The system deletes the combined device GND-LR but leaves all the uncombined child devices in the slot. The uncombined devices remain mapped to the same connector cavities.

Impact of Project Preference

When all of those grounds are combined (as at the start of this example), if you visualize the wiring for signal GND-LR (the signal going to the combined device), you get the following:

The combined devices share wiring and there is a wire going to LIFTGATE LATCH.

If you have not selected the “Automatically delete obsolete wiring after unplace or uncombine” project preference and you uncombine GND-LIFTGATE LATCH, a refreshed visualized wiring view looks the same as before. It still has the wire that went to GND-LIFTGATE LATCH; even though GND-LIFTGATE LATCH is no longer grounded in the same signal that grounds the other combined devices.

If you select the project preference and uncombine GND-LIFTGATE LATCH, the system deletes that obsolete wire. A refreshed visualized wiring view no longer includes that wire:
