Designer Design Filter Dialog Box
To access: Press the space bar and enter Filter design or click the Filtering button on the Status Bar.
Used to specify an option configuration or list of options to filter the open diagrams by in the current project.
Objects

| Filter | The type of filter to apply: Graphics by Configuration Filter using the list of options in an option configuration. Graphics by Option Filter using a list of options that you add to the Selected list. No filtering Display all objects. |

| Available | Lists the configurations / options that are available for selection. Select a configuration or option and click Add to move it to the Selected list. When filtering by option, click Add All to move all available options to the Selected list. |
| Selected | Lists the configuration / options that have been selected. To remove a configuration / option from the list, select it and click Remove to move it to the Available list. When filtering by option, to empty the list click Remove All. Note When filtering by configuration you can only add one configuration to the Selected list. | Filters | Located below the Available and Selected lists. Enter alpha / numeric text to dynamically filter the list of options to display only options with names containing your search text. Options in folders (and sub-folders) are included in the filtering. You must open any non-expanded folder to see the filtered option. The behavior of the filters varies depending on such things as whether you use wildcards and the case (upper or lower) of the specified characters. See Browser Tab and Dialog Box Filters. |
Usage Notes
Filtering is applied according to a set of general filtering rules and also according to additional, object-type-specific rules. Filtering is only applied to connectivity objects - graphical shapes (such as lines and rectangles) and graphical objects (images, text, glyphs and symbols) are not filtered. (See “Graphic Drawing Tools” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide for a description of graphical shapes and graphical objects.)
An option expression is considered to match the filter if applying the option expression to the filtering options (the options in the configuration when filtering by configuration or the options in the Selected list when filtering by option) would logically evaluate as true. For example, with filtering options OptionA and OptionB, the option expressions “OptionA” and “OptionA || OptionC” would both match the filter but an option expression “OptionA && OptionC” would not match the filter. Caution
For the purposes of evaluating whether or not an option expression matches the filter, any negated option is considered to be logically equivalent to any other option. For example, !OptionC is considered equivalent to OptionA and also equivalent to OptionB. Therefore, with filtering options OptionA and OptionB, the option expressions “!OptionC” and “!OptionC || OptionD” would both match the filter.
Note
Filtering by configuration or option expression and leaving the Selected list empty means that there are no filtering options and therefore no non-blank option expressions will match the filter.
Filtering does not affect the Design Browser. Objects appear in the Design Browser even when they have been filtered-out of the diagram.
General
Filtering Rules
Filtering is applied to connectivity objects according to the following rules, with the first rule taking precedence over all the other rules:
If the design revision that the diagram is part of has a non-blank option expression that does not match the filter then all objects are filtered-out.
Objects with non-blank option expressions are filtered-out if their option expression does not match the filter.
Options with blank option expressions are filtered-out unless Show Non-Optioned Objects is selected.
Object-type-specific
Rules
Additional rules are applied for the following object types:
- Nets and wires If one or more of the devices or connectors to which a net or wire is connected are filtered-out, the net / wire is filtered-out.
If a pin to which a net or wire is connected has an option expression that does not match the filter then the connected net / wire is filtered-out.
If none of the objects to which a net or wire is connected are filtered-out, the net / wire is filtered based on its own option expression.
Unconnected nets / wires that are a shared object (see Shared Conductors) or a design-wide object (see Design-Wide Objects) are filtered based on their own option expressions. Unconnected nets / wires that are neither a shared object or a design-wide object are not displayed, regardless of their own option expression.
Device connectors Device connectors are filtered-out if the device they are attached to is filtered-out. A device connector’s own option expression is not considered. See also Device Connectors.
Inlines The two sides of an inline connector are filtered separately according to their own option expressions.
Pins Pins are filtered-out if the object they are placed on is filtered-out. A pin’s own option expression affects whether or not a connected net or wire is filtered-out but does not affect whether or not the pin itself is filtered-out. Dialog boxes that list pins are unaffected by filtering.
Assemblies Assemblies have no visible representation on a diagram (aside from the objects that have been added to the assembly). Filtering does not affect assemblies - they remain displayed in the Design Browser even if all their component objects have been filtered-out of the diagram.
Highways Highways do not have their own option expressions. A highway is filtered-out if all the conductors routed into it are filtered-out. Highways that do not have any conductors routed into them are not filtered-out.
Multicores and overbraids The nets and wires in a multicore / overbraid core are filtered according to their own option expressions and whether or not they are unconnected. Multicore / overbraid indicators are filtered according to their own option expressions unless all the nets and wires in the multicore / overbraid core are filtered-out, in which case the indicators are also filtered-out. Dialog boxes that list multicores / overbraids after unaffected by filtering.
Shield terminations Shield terminations are filtered according to their own option expressions unless a multicore indicator that a shield termination is connected to is filtered‑out because of its own option expression not matching the filter, in which case, the shield termination is also filtered-out. If a multicore indicator is filtered‑out because of all the conductors in its core being filtered‑out, a shield termination connected to the indicator is not affected and is filtered according to its own option expression.
Daisy chains Daisy chains do not have their own option expressions. Daisy chains are filtered‑out if a multicore indicator that a daisy chain is connected to is filtered‑out because of its own option expression not matching the filter. If a multicore indicator is filtered‑out because of all the conductors in its core being filtered‑out, a daisy chain connected to the indicator is not affected.
