Assessing Optimum Diagram

Commonality

You can use the Merge All Matching action in the early stages of the merge process to help identify harnesses with the closest commonality which will be the optimum harnesses for merging.

Prerequisites

• You have created an empty merged design as described in Steps 1 to 3 of the Preparing to Merge or Combine Formboards.

Procedure

1. Click one of the Select formboard diagram buttons in an empty preview window and select the first harness you are considering for merging.The harness displays in the design preview window.

2. Ensure the member harness preview window has focus (the edges of the panel display colored) and click the Place All ribbon action.The whole content of the selected member design displays on the merged formboard diagram Note See the Merged or Combined Content Color Display topic for information about how the process highlights content on member and merged designs throughout the merge process.

3. Click the Select formboard diagram buttons in the empty preview window and select a harness you are considering for merging.The harness displays in the design preview window.

4. Ensure the second preview window has focus (the edges of the panel display colored) and click the Merge All Matching ribbon action.The process compares the member and merged designs, identifies all common identical content, and merges it onto the merged design.

A message box displays information about what has been merged. This gives you an indication of commonality.

5. Click Close.

Results

• The process displays the merged / unmerged content in different colors (see Merged or Combined Content Color Display).

• Based on the displayed highlighting and the calculated result shown in the message box in step 4, you can assess if the two harnesses you have selected share enough commonality to be suitable candidates for merging.

• If you decide that they are not suitable candidates for merging, repeat the procedure to compare different harnesses.

• If you decide they are suitable candidates for merging, you can continue the merge process. See the Merging Formboards topic.
