Assigning Wires from Abstract Harness Levels to Physical

	Harness Levels

You can assign wires from abstract harness levels to physical harness levels based on their option expression. You would do this when using a mixed Modular and Composite Synthesis flow.

The following is an example of how the action uses option expressions to assign the wires:

Consider a case where a harness has one abstract level A1, and two physical levels L1 and L2.

Level Type OPT1 OPT2

It does not matter which options are supported by abstract level A1, because this action does not assign wires to abstract levels.

Physical level L1 supports option OPT1.

Physical level L2 supports option OPT2.

There are four wires in the design W1 to W4.

W4 OPT2 L1, L2 L2

W1 has option expression OPT1 and is supported by abstract level A1. When you run the action, it assigns the wire W1 to physical harness level L1 because the wire has the option expression OPT1 and the level L1 supports OPT1. Levels A1 and L1 now both include wire W1.

W2 has the same option expression OPT1 and is already assigned to both the abstract level A1 and physical level L1. When you run the action, nothing changes for W2 because it is perfectly assigned already.

W3 has the option expression OPT2 and is already assigned to all three levels A1, L1, L2. However, level L1 does not support the option OPT2. When you run the action, it removes W3 from the level L1. Meaning it is just in levels A1 and L2.

Similarly to wire W3, wire W4 has the option expression OPT2 and is already assigned to levels L1 and L2. The action removes wire W4 from level L1. Meaning it is just in level L2.

Caution

If a wire is present only on a physical harness level, and that level no longer supports that wire or option, the action deletes the wire.

Prerequisites

  • Modular Wiring Synthesis must have been run on the design so that the harnesses have abstract wiring.

  • Physical harness levels must have been created or imported for at least some of the harnesses.

Note

You can configure a set of design rule checks (DRCs) to run automatically after the level assignment process is complete. By default, this action runs a “Redundant wires” DRC. You can configure it to run other DRCs by adding additional ones to the Level Assignment running mode in the project preferences for Capital Systems Integrator. You can also remove the “Redundant wires” DRC from that running mode so that it does not run automatically.

Procedure

Decide the harnesses for which you want to run the action:

If you want to... Do the following:
Attempt to assign abstract wires to physical harness levels for all harnesses. Click the Complexity > Assign Levels on the Automate ribbon tab at the top of the application.
Attempt to assign abstract wires to physical harness levels for selected harnesses. In the Design Browser (Design tab at the bottom left of the application), select one or more harnesses, right-click them, and choose Assign Levels.

Note

The Assign Levels action is unavailable when there are no physical harness levels for any of the selected harnesses, or when there is no abstract wiring in the design.

The Assign Levels progress bar displays and closes when the action is complete.

Note

Once the DRCs have started to run, the action cannot be canceled.

Results

  • The action assigns abstract wires to physical harness levels based on option expressions.

  • An Assign Levels tab displays in the Output Window at the bottom of the application window. It reports on: Unassigned and deleted wires

Harnesses that have been skipped by the action because no physical level was present for them

Issues identified by DRCs set to run in Level Assignment mode in the project preferences for Capital Systems Integrator. Note Those DRCs run on all harnesses even if the Assign Levels action only ran on a sub-set of harnesses.
