Cavity Component

	Management Dialog Box

To access: Press Space Bar and enter Cavity Component Management, or right-click the diagram canvas or a connector, backshell, or device and select Cavity Component Management from the context menu.

Used to perform terminal, plug, and seal selection for connectors, backshells, or devices, and to select extra cavity components.

Description

The dialog box includes the following tables:

  • Cavity Details Table This table displays the latest selection of parts for each connector, backshell, or device cavity and its associated wire combination.

There are rows under each cavity representing the various wire combinations that can exist in the that cavity. For example if you have chosen to base your wire combination on child derivative designs, and cavity “1” contains wire “WIRE100” in derivative “DER01” and wire “WIRE200” in derivative “DER02”, two extra rows are added beneath the row for cavity “1”. All maintenance options are enabled in the rows corresponding to the cavity / wire / derivative / module combination. See also Cavity Component Management.

The columns can be re-ordered and re-sized by dragging and dropping. The re‑positioning is preserved on subsequent use of the dialog box.

  • Connector / Device Attributes Table This table lists various attributes for the currently selected connector or device. Any changes made to attributes in this table are stored against the connector / device. Click the Edit Attributes button to toggle the display of the table.

Objects

Field Description
Name Dropdown list containing all currently selected connectors / devices. Any Generate Combinations and Select Parts actions are applied to the selected connector / device. If All is selected, any Generate Combinations and Select Parts actions are applied to all connectors / devices currently in the list. See “Usage Notes”. Read-only.
Edit Attributes Click to toggle the display of the Connector / Device Attributes table, and edit various attributes for the currently selected connector / device.
Generate Combinations and Select Parts Click to create wire combinations per cavity, and select parts for those combinations, in one of the following modes: Generate Combinations and Select Parts This is the default mode and runs the processing of both of the following modes. Generate Combinations This mode creates wire combinations for each cavity in accordance with any applicable constraints, but will not select part numbers. Select Parts This mode select parts for each wire combination. This mode is unavailable until one of the Generate Combinations options has been run. Components are selected according to the Cavity Component Selection Rules. Wire combinations are selected according to the Set Cavity Details Generation Method Constraint. Specify Terminal/Seal/Plug Click to open the Select Part Dialog Box and specify the following cavity components for single or multiple selected rows. See Adding Cavity Components to Empty Cavities. Specify Terminal Specify Seal Specify Plug
Delete Selected Cavity Details Click to delete the cavity details for the currently selected rows.
Internal / Customer / Supplier Changes the type of part number displayed in the Cavity Details Table. Default is “Internal”. Entries in the table display “Undefined” where “Customer” or “Supplier” selected, but that part number is not set on the displayed component.
Cavity Details Table This table displays the selection of parts for each connector, backshell, or device cavity wire combination.
DRC Results A number of Design Rule Checks are applied to each cavity / wire / derivative / module combination when a connector or device is processed. If any conflicts are detected, the Warning symbol () is displayed. Click the symbol to display an information window with details of the issue. See “Usage Notes”.
Cavity The name of the connector / device cavity or the name of the backshell termination cavity. Backshell termination cavities are denoted by the symbol. Where a row exists for every wire combination under consideration. This column contains a icon, indicating that the row is associated with the previous named cavity row. Note The selection routine does not consider modular connector cavities that are blocked by a configured insert connector position. See Modular Connectors Overview. Such cavities do not display in the table. Read-only.
Wire Combinations The names of the wires in this cavity wire combination. Click in the field to display an ellipsis button (). Click the button to display a popup menu with a sortable, scrollable, and copy-able list of the cell contents. Clicking the mouse anywhere outside this popup menu, or pressing the Escape key, closes the menu. Hover over a wire combination cell to see a tool tip displaying information (material, spec, CSA, color and so on) for up to three wires. Where there are more than three wires in the cell, an ellipsis at the bottom of the tooltip indicates that the information does not include all wires. Read-only.
T/Mat The material code assigned to the terminal selected—either manually or automatically—for this cavity / wire / derivative / module combination. Read-only. Hover the cursor over the cell to display a tooltip which displays the following: Wire End — The terminal material code specified against the wire end terminated in this cavity, as selected on the Details tab in the Edit Wires Dialog Box. Wire — The terminal material code specified against the wire terminated in this cavity, as selected on the General tab in the Edit Wires Dialog Box. Connector — The terminal material code specified against this connector as displayed in the Terminal Material field in the Connector / Device Attributes table.
Terminal The currently selected terminal part number. This cell can also contain the following: An auto-select check box specifies if the terminal is auto-selected (selected) or manually specified (cleared). Multi-select rows and right-click this column to Enable / Disable the check box for all selected terminals. A Delete icon (), deletes the currently selected terminal part number. This icon is unavailable when there is no part number displayed. An Edit icon (), opens the Select Part Dialog Box to manually select a terminal part number to use from the housing definition. This will override any auto-selected terminal part number. This icon is unavailable if auto-select check box is selected.
Seal The currently selected cavity seal part number. This cell can also contain the following: An auto-select check box specifies if the cavity seal is auto-selected (selected) or manually specified (cleared). Multi-select rows and right-click this column to Enable / Disable the check box for all selected seals. A Delete icon (), deletes the currently selected cavity seal part number. This icon is unavailable when there is no part number displayed. An Edit icon (), opens the Select Part Dialog Box to manually select a cavity seal part number to use from the housing definition. This will override any auto-selected cavity seal part number. This icon is unavailable if auto-select check box is selected.
Plug The currently selected cavity plug part number. This cell can also contain the following: Check box — denotes if plugs are required for this cavity (selected) or not (cleared). If the attribute Plugs Required is selected, this box displays selected. Clear to un-plug individual cavities. Multi-select rows and right-click this column to Enable / Disable the check box for all selected plugs. The Delete icon () deletes the currently selected cavity plug part number. This icon is unavailable when there is no part number displayed. The Edit icon () opens the Select Part Dialog Box to manually select a cavity plug part number from the housing definition. This icon is unavailable if the check box is cleared.
Backshell Plug The currently selected backshell plug part number. This cell can also contain the following: The Delete button () deletes the currently selected backshell plug part number. This icon is unavailable when there is no part number displayed. The Edit button () opens the Select Part Dialog Box to manually select a backshell plug part number to use from the housing definition. This will override any auto-selected backshell plug part number. This icon is unavailable if the connector is not Backshell Plugged.
Extra Components Click the Edit button (), to open the Extra Cavity Components Dialog Box to select any cavity components configured in the terminal’s housing definition. Once selected, the part numbers of any cavity components are displayed in the field. The Delete button () deletes the currently selected part number. This icon is unavailable when there is no part number displayed. Optional.
Designs Displays the name of the child designs which will contain this wire combination for the cavity. Click in the field to display an ellipsis button (). Click the button to display a popup menu with a sortable, scrollable, and copy-able list of the cell contents. Clicking the mouse anywhere outside this popup menu, or pressing the Escape key, closes the menu. Read-only.
FMC’s This field is only available for Capital Harness Designer Modular. Displays the functional module codes assigned to the wire combination for the cavity. Click in the field to display an ellipsis button (). Click the button to display a popup menu with a sortable, scrollable, and copy-able list of the cell contents. Clicking the mouse anywhere outside this popup menu, or pressing the Escape key, closes the menu. Read-only.
PMC’s This field is only available for Capital Harness Designer Modular. Displays the production module codes assigned to the wire combination for the cavity. Click in the field to display an ellipsis button (). Click the button to display a popup menu with a sortable, scrollable, and copy-able list of the cell contents. Clicking the mouse anywhere outside this popup menu, or pressing the Escape key, closes the menu. Read-only.
Connector / Device Attributes Table Lists a subset of attributes for the selected connector / device. Toggle the Edit Attributes button to hide / display this table. See the “Attributes Table” section in the Add Connector Dialog Box, or the Add Device Dialog Box, for details of attributes that are not listed.
Backshell Seal Part Number Displays the part number of an associated backshell seal if one was selected from the connector’s list of additional components when the connector was added to the design. If no backshell seal is selected, but the Backshell Seal Required option is selected, click the Generate Combinations and Select Parts button to select a backshell seal from the connector’s housing definition, if one is available. If more than one is available, the seal with the highest Factor specified is selected. Read-only.
Backshell Seal Required By default, this option is selected if a backshell seal is selected from the connector’s housing definition, and is cleared if no backshell seal has been specified. However, this option can be changed to force the selection of a backshell seal, or to ignore a previously selected seal. Optional. If the Backshell Seal Part Number field is empty, select this option and click the Generate Combinations and Select Parts button to force the selection of a backshell seal from the connector’s housing definition, if one is available. If more than one is available, the seal with the highest Factor specified is selected. If the Backshell Seal Part Number field displays a part number, clear the option to clear the field, and the selection of the backshell seal from the connector’s housing definition will be ignored.

Usage Notes

  • If the open design is read-only, or the design Release Level Behavior Harness Processing is cleared, this dialog box displays in read-only mode. You can use the functionality in the dialog box for reference purposes but you cannot save any changes because the OK and Apply buttons do not display.

  • The Cavity Details table displays the current status of the cavity details for the currently selected connector / device.

  • No connectors / devices are processed until the Generate Combinations and Select Parts button is clicked.

  • Processing is run on the connector / device name that is displayed in the Name box.

The connectors / devices available for display in the Name dropdown list depend on how the dialog box is accessed: Individual connector / device— If the dialog box is accessed with an individual component selected, the Name field will display the name of the selected connector / device. The Cavity Details table will display the current status of the cavity combination selections.

Multiple connectors / devices — If the dialog box is accessed with multiple components selected, the Name field will display All, and the names of the selected connectors / devices will be available in the dropdown list. On selecting a connector / device name from the dropdown list, the Cavity Details table will display the current status of its cavity combination selections.

All connectors / devices — If the dialog box is accessed with all connectors / devices or components selected on the diagram, the Name field will display All, and the names of all the connectors / devices on the diagram will be available in the dropdown list. On selecting a connector / device name from the dropdown list, the Cavity Details table will display the current status of its cavity combination selections.

Running Generate Combinations and Select Parts with All — Select in any of the instances to run the selection routine on all of the connectors / devices listed in the dropdown list.

  • The following DRCs are automatically triggered when Generate Combinations and Select Parts is run, when a part is manually selected, when a part number is deleted, and when a cavity detail is deleted or removed. The DRC Results column displays if there are any issues found.

Alternative Cavity Plug Available Multiple cavity plugs exist in the housing definition, and therefore, could be automatically selected.

Alternative Cavity Seal Available Multiple cavity seals exist in the housing definition, and therefore, could be automatically selected.

Alternative Terminal Available Multiple terminals exist in the housing definition, and therefore, could be automatically selected.

Inappropriate Terminal Material or Type for Wire A manually selected terminal has a different material or type to that specified by the terminal material / type driver.

Terminal Material Code Mismatch at Double Termination The terminal material drivers for two wires in the same derivative are not the same.

Mismatched Wire and Cavity Terminal The cavity terminal material (whether specified against the wire end or the connector / device) and the wire terminal material are not the same.
