Processing a Harness Design

You can run harness processing on a single or composite harness, including the option to select the processing steps to be performed.

Prerequisites

Ensure you have followed the steps in “Harness Processing Configuration”.

Note

It is possible to run harness processing as a background task. See also, “Running Capital Tasks in the Background” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide.

Procedure

Select the harness design to be processed in the Project browser.Note If the harness design is currently open, it will be automatically closed to enable it to be processed. It will automatically be reopened once processing is complete.
Press Space Bar and enter Harness Processing.Note Any configured “On Processing” Design Rule Checks automatically run at this point. See Harness Processing Configuration.

The Harness Processing Dialog Box is displayed.

Select the processes you want to be performed on the harness:If you are processing a single harness, you can select from Harness Engineering and Harness Checks.

If you are processing a composite harness, you can select from Harness Engineering (against the composite and derivatives or modules) and Harness Checks (also against the composite or derivatives).

If you are processing a composite harness, select the derivatives to be processed using the Derivative Selection options.
(For Capital Harness Designer Modular only) If you are processing a modular harness, select the child designs to be processed using the Child Design Selection options.
Click Next.Note If any errors exist in the harness design that will prevent the processing from completing successfully, a warning is displayed, detailing the problem. Any issues must be resolved before processing can continue. You can configure the Allow Breakdown without all part numbers selected project preference to enable Composite Breakdown to run on designs where not all components have library part numbers assigned.

The screens displayed throughout the wizard vary according to the processes you selected at Step 3, but in each case you can select from the options / actions available to each process before clicking Next to progress to the next screen. You can pre-configure, lock or hide the selection options using the Default Processing Configuration project preference. Harness Checks.

Once the Summary Screen is displayed, click Finish to begin the harness processing.

Results

The Harness Processing tab of the Output Window is displayed, showing the status of each stage of the process.
A warning message is displayed, if the process identifies a ring terminal from a ring terminal family (a ring terminal with child ring terminals configured in its housing definition) and there is a mismatch between the dressed routes of the parent and child.
