Harness Designer Modular Workflow

As the choice of vehicle options increases, so does harness complexity and the management, reporting and costing of that complexity. Capital Harness Designer Modular helps to reduce the management of this complexity, not only in preparation for harness fabrication, but also in offering change management facilities for incoming modular data, module design rule checks (DRCs), complex-system costing and offers advantages for the assembly documentation process.

Capital Harness Designer Modular enables customers to address major business and manufacturing challenges using modular techniques. It enables companies to engage in a “customer-specific harness” process and to resolve the attendant functional module calculation problems. It also enables manufacturers to decompose harnesses into production modules to meet specific plant know-how and constraints. The powerful automatic and interactive features enable design, visualization, and processing of both Functional and Production modules.

Modular Codes, assigned to designs authored in Capital Logic Designer, can have this modular data passed into Capital Harness Designer Modular using Harness Synchronization.

Non-Capital authored modular data can be imported (bridged) into the Capital Harness Designer Modular workflow, and manipulated using the full range of modular harness design tools.

To aid in the management and determination of the appropriate modular harness designs, Capital Harness Designer Modular also provides a number of functions, including automatic module code assignation, Modular Explorer and the Scratchpad.

The following section gives an overview of the intended flow for using Capital Harness Designer Modular. The graphical representation has been tagged to correspond with the numbered flow sequence to provide further information on each step of the process.

  1. Create, register, and manage the required Functional and Production Module codes. See Functional and Production Module Code Maintenance.

  2. Bridge In flow

  • Import module codes or bridge in modular data. See “Capital Wiring Integrator Connectors” in the Capital Connectors User Guide to use the Modular Change Manager functionality.
  1. Harness Synchronization Flow. As an alternate flow to the Bridge In flow, designs can be created in Capital Logic Designer with all relevant component objects assigned a module code. The module information can then be passed into Capital Harness Designer Modular using the Harness Synchronization process.

  2. In Capital Harness Designer Modular, create a parent (composite) design. See Creating a Modular Parent Harness Design.

  3. Run the Module Code Assignation, utilizing either the automated assignation routines or the interactive routines as required to create designs.

  4. (Optional) Assign and create production module codes and designs. See Modules Ribbon Actions and Manually Completing (Interactive) Module Code Assignation.

  5. Following successful module code assignation and the creation of the module designs, run Module Breakdown to populate designs. See Modular Breakdown. Module breakdown can also be influenced by any rules and constraints that you may choose to apply, particularly in the area of splice repositioning, as well as some system applied design rule checks. See Defining Module Assignation Constraints.

  6. Produce and release design diagrams. See Using Diagrams.

  7. Obtain costing measurements from the modules using Capital Costing (Labor and Material).

  8. Generate reports, including the ability to report on module relationships. See Generating Module Reports.
