Generating Harness Connectors
You can use the Generate Harness Connectors action to generate harness connectors.
To use the Generate Harness Connectors action, you must add a device with a harness connector footprint or a ring terminal in its housing to a diagram. The Generate Harness Connectors action creates plugs or ring terminals, depending on what you have defined in the footprint or housing.
Note
Advanced naming is automatically triggered when you run the Generate Harness Connectors action. See also “Advanced Naming Functionality” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide.
If the design abstraction assigned to the design has the “Auto create harness connectors” option selected, harness connectors are generated automatically when you add a device with a library part definition that has a harness connector footprint or a ring terminal in its housing to a diagram. If the design abstraction does not have the “Auto create harness connectors” option selected you can manually run the Generate Harness Connectors action after adding a device to a diagram and adding pins to it.
Where possible, the Generate Harness Connectors action generates one harness connector graphic for multiple pins from the same harness connector. In the example in Figure 34, harness connector P1 has been generated with one graphic, but because of the locations of pins 5, 6, 7, and 8, harness connector P2 has been created as a design‑wide object. See also Design-Wide Objects.
Figure 34: Generated Harness Connectors
If you have already connected conductors to pins on a device, when you run Generate Harness Connectors on the device the conductors will be moved so they are connected to the pins on the connector instead.
Note
To delete a harness connector generated automatically (that is, on a design with a design abstraction that has the “Auto create harness connectors” option selected) from a diagram, you must disconnect the connector from the device. Select the connector, press the space bar and enter Disconnect Selected, or right-click and select Disconnect Selected. You cannot move the pins on a plug generated automatically. These two restrictions do not apply to connectors generated by manually running the Generate Harness Connectors action.
