Bundle Width

When working in full scale diagrams, the option is available to render bundle widths to accurately reflect the calculated bundle width. The width of the bundle is indicated independently of any insulations applied, which are in turn also rendered at full scale.

Note

The option to create full scale diagrams is a licensed operation. If you do not have the required license, this option is unavailable. Note also that once a diagram has been set to render full scale bundle widths, it is not possible to clear this option and return to not-to-scale bundle widths.

In the following example, the bundle has a width of 5.4 mm, and is partly covered by an overlap tape, and then a 14 mm tube, and space tape:

The uninsulated bundle width is displayed in red (as dictated by the associated style set), and the width beneath the insulation run is rendered in blue. The two layers of tape have insufficient thickness to be visibly distinguishable from the bundle and insulation linestyles, but the tube, with its 14 mm bore and 2 mm wall thickness, is clearly rendered, 18 mm wide.

Bundle widths are rendered as 1 unit wide by default, and do display the true width until engineering calculations have been run. Any changes to the number of wires running through the bundle are not be reflected in the rendered width until engineering calculations are run.

The color and linestyle used to represent the bundle width, both insulated and uninsulated, are completely configurable, as is the option to display the widths for insulated bundles.

Note

When bundle insulations are rendered to full scale, it is possible for insulation layers to be displayed in a different order than their layer numbers would suggest. For example, if multiple turns of a thick tape are applied to level 10 of a bundle, and a thin tube is selected at level 20, the calculated widths could place the tape insulation outside of the tube. Where this occurs, consider selecting a tube with a larger diameter.

Style to Bundle or Insulation Width Extents

When styling a decoration on to a bundle, you have the option to utilize the lower and upper extents of the rendered bundle or insulation run as the origin justification point. This applies to the following decorations:

  • Bundles

  • Mid Bundle Components (Clip, Splice, Grommet, Other Component, Reference Node, Spot Tape, Multi Location Component whose owner node is on the bundle and node is the Reference Node)

  • Internode Dimensions

If your bundle/insulation has no graphical width, the decoration will be automatically styled to the corresponding centerline point. The decoration styling relative to the width extent is also maintained if Symbol Flip - Vertical action is invoked.

If you rotate a bundle past the vertical, the decoration is flipped symmetrically to the bundle.

If the decoration is on a bundle with resized insulation which is asymmetrical to the bundle, the decoration will flip symmetrically to the bundle and may appear to move position in relation to the insulation.
