Adding a

Device From Capital Component Manager as a Parameterized Device

You can add a library device to a diagram as a parameterized device (with pins but no symbol). You can select which pins from the library part to place on the device.

Prerequisites

  • The device to add is already created in Capital Component Manager. See “Creating a Device” in the Capital Component Manager User Guide.

Procedure

  1. To select the device:Press the space bar and enter Add Device from Library. The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed.

Click the Parts tab to access the Parts Browser.

  1. In the search field, select a part number type from the dropdown list.

  2. Type the library part number of the device to add in the text box or click the Search parts using criteria specified button () to display a list of parts matching your search criteria.
    Tip You can use the Filter to reduce the number of parts that are displayed when you search.

  3. Select the device in the Parts list:In the Part Selection dialog box, click Insert.

In the Parts Browser: If the library part does not have a symbol associated with it, double‑click the part or right‑click and select Create Device with pins.

If the library part has a symbol associated with it, right‑ click the part and select Create Device with pins.

If the library part does not have a symbol associated with it, the Add Device From Library Part Dialog Box is displayed. If the library part has a symbol associated with it, the Place Device dialog box is displayed. See Place Dialog Boxes.

  1. In the Select Pins table, select or multi‑select the pins to place on the object. If you choose to place pins individually on the diagram, they will display in the order selected in the table.

  2. Choose to place pins Individually, As Group, As Stack, or select Auto-Generate.

  3. Choose whether to place pins As Reference, and then click OK.Tip See Reference Pins for a description of reference pins.

The cursor changes to .

  1. Click to place the first corner of the device.

  2. Move the cursor to position the opposite corner of the device. A shadow box indicates where the device will be added and a tooltip displays the width and number of pins that can fit on the device. Click to place the device on the diagram. Tip To rotate a device you are placing, press R after you click to place the first corner of the device. After placing the device: The device name is displayed vertically to the right of the device. Any pins placed automatically using Ctrl+click are placed on the top / bottom of the device instead of on the left / right.

  3. If you selected Auto-Generate, the pins are placed on the device automatically. Skip the remaining steps in this procedure.If you are placing pins on the object instance, the cursor changes to . Circles highlight locations on the object instance where you can place pins, and dotted gray lines / boxes highlight locations outside the object instance where you can place pins.

  4. To place pins individually, or as a group or stack, hover over the location where you want to place the pins.The cursor changes to .

  5. Click to place the pins.

  6. To place multiple pins individually, repeat Steps 12 and 13.

Results

  • The device is added to the diagram. The object stretches to include any pins placed outside its boundaries.

Note

If you add a device such that one of its sides is touching the side of a plug that can connect with a device, and the plug has pins, or the side of the device touching the plug has pins, or both, the plug will be mated with the device and matching pins will be added as required.

If you place a device with a library part across the path of a net, wire or shield termination, depending upon the number of pins placed and where you place them, or where they are auto‑generated, the conductor may be broken and a new conductor with the same properties created on one side of the device. If this happens, the two conductors are attached to pins on the device. This also applies to nets and wires in multicores and overbraids, which are split and retain their structure on both sides of the new device. If there are shields and daisy chains attached, they remain connected to the same pins but may belong to the newly created multicore or overbraid. If the existing multicore or overbraid belongs to an assembly, the newly created multicore or overbraid also belongs to that assembly. In the case of design-wide and shared nets, wires and multicores, the newly-created conductors are created as entirely new non-design-wide, non-shared conductors. That is, they are not created as instances of the design-wide or shared conductor.
