Routing Assistant

The Routing Assistant is displayed as a tab in the Output window. It identifies possible routes for selected / identified unrouted wires and multicores. These routes may or may not be complete. If they are incomplete, the To-Do List table identifies where an inline connector instance is required in the associated Capital Logic Designer diagrams to complete the route. You can use the Routing Assistant to automatically insert a missing inline connector into the unrouted wires and multicores, so that they can be routed through the topology.

To access the Routing Assistant:

  • Right-click one or more unrouted wires and multicores, for which you want to identify possible routes, and select Routing Assistant or click the Show Routing Assistant button () in the Design Browser (Capital

Wiring Integrator) or Wiring Browser.

  • Right-click an inline connector, for which you want to identify the currently unrouted wires and multicores whose routes could be completed by adding instances of this inline connector to the Capital Logic Designer designs, and select Routing Assistant or click the Show Routing Assistant button () in the Design Browser or Wiring Browser.

Note

If you select already routed wires or multicores and choose the Routing Assistant action, a message informs you that the selected wires or multicores are already routed. You can click OK to continue to the Routing Assistant. The routes displayed in the routes table have an icon to indicate whether they are viable and implemented: viable route not implemented , viable route implemented , unviable route that is not implemented , or an unviable route that is implemented . You can switch which route is implemented by selecting the one you want to use (and clicking Place Inline).

You can toggle whether the Routes Table displays only viable routes (the default) or both viable and unviable routes by clicking the button. The application remembers what you selected when you last used Routing Assistant.

You can right-click the tab and select Remove tab to close the tab.

When unrouted wires and multicores have been selected, the common, unique routes that are possible for those wires and multicores are displayed. For example, the routes may pass through different bundles or different inline connectors. When you have selected multiple unrouted wires and multicores and Routing Assistant finds common routes, it finds common routes only for wires and multicores that can be routed. Wires and multicores that cannot be routed are ignored and are not considered in the routes table.

			Note 
				When you use the Routing Assistant for unrouted wires from a multicore that
					has some wires routed already, the Routing Assistant recommends a path to
					maintain consistency and minimize divergence. See Recommended Paths for Partially Routed Multicores.

			

			When you select a route in this table, it is highlighted in the topology Diagram
				window and details for each stage of the route are displayed in the To-Do List
				table. If a Capital Logic Designer diagram is active in the Diagram window, no
				route is highlighted in it. Each stage of the route may or may not be complete
				in the associated Capital Logic Designer designs.

When an inline connector has been selected, this displays the routes for the wires and multicores that have been identified as currently unrouted but whose route could be completed by adding an instance of the selected inline connector to the associated Capital Logic Designer designs. Each row represents a group of wires with common endpoints that could be routed through the selected inline connector. Status Indicates whether a route is a viable route that is not implemented , a viable route that is implemented , an unviable route that is not implemented , or an inviable route that is implemented .

Place Select one or more routes where you want to place the wires, multicores, or inline connector. In wire and multicore mode, you can select only one route (because each route is for the same set of wires). In inline mode, each route is for a different group of wires so you can select multiple rows. The Place Inline button, above the To-Do List table, is enabled when the Place column is selected for one or more routes.

Length The total length of the route (calculated as the sum of all bundle lengths along the route).

Inlines The number of inline connectors along the route.

Harnesses The harnesses through which the route passes.

Wires The number of currently unrouted wires that are consumed by this route.

					Show viable routes only / Show all routes ()

					Toggles whether the Routes Table displays only viable routes (the default)
						or both viable and unviable routes. The application remembers what you
						selected when you last used Routing Assistant.

					This toggle works in conjunction with the Show shortest route
							only filter so you can select to show just the shortest
						viable route.

Show shortest route only () Click to display only the shortest route for each group of wires (that is, wires with the same endpoints) in this table. The application does not remember whether this was selected when you last used Routing Assistant.

					This toggle works in conjunction with the Show viable routes
							only / Show all routes filter so you can select to show
						just the shortest viable route.

Displays on the right of the routing assistant button Displays details for each stage of the possible route selected in the Routes table. The From cell in the top row indicates the connector where the wire starts and the To cell in the bottom row indicates the connector where the wire ends. Both of these connectors already exist in the associated Capital Logic Designer designs and the wire already starts and terminates at those points. Any connectors in the other From and To cells do not currently exist for the selected/identified wires in the associated Capital Logic Designer designs. That means, instances of the connector may or may not exist in those designs but the wires do not currently pass through any of them. You can reverse the order in which the stages of this route are displayed in this table by clicking the Reverse Route button (). To complete the route, you must add an inline instance through which the wire passes. You do this by selecting the Place column for one or more routes in the Route table and clicking the Place Inline button (). This is enabled only when the Place column is selected for one or more routes.

			Caution 
				When the ‘Enable multi-user editing of designs’ project preference is set
					to true for Capital Logic Designer designs, the Place Inline action is not permitted.

Status Indicates whether this stage of the route is a viable route that is not implemented , a viable route that is implemented , an unviable route that is not implemented , or an unviable route that is implemented .

					You can hold your mouse over the icon for an unviable route to see why it
						is unviable (for example, not enough cavities to terminate shield(s), no
						unrestricted cavity available to route, or wire spec not
						compatible).

From Displays the name of the connector or bundle device at the start of this stage of the route. If the connector is mated to a device, the device name is also displayed. Red text indicates that an action is required: The connector does not exist (is missing) and must be added to an associated Capital Logic Designer design.

There is at least one wire in this row of the table that does not terminate at the connector yet.

If you select a connector cell in the table, a tooltip displays the following additional information: Links to any instances of that object in the Capital Wiring Integrator diagram or in the associated Capital Logic Designer diagrams. Click the link to jump to that instance in the Diagram window

A Spec. table lists the gauges of the unrouted wires that could pass through this connector. You can use the report to identify whether the selected connector is big enough to house all of the wires. Spec. The different gauges of the unrouted wires. Cavities The number of available cavities on the connector that support the gauge. Wires The number of unrouted wires with this gauge that could pass through the inline.

Available Cavities Displays the number of available cavities on the From connector. If the connector does not currently exist, Missing is displayed.

To Displays the name of the connector or bundle device at the end of this stage of the route. If the connector is mated to a device, the device name is also displayed. Red text indicates that an action is required: The connector does not exist (is missing) and must be added to an associated Capital Logic Designer design.

There is at least one wire in this row of the table that does not terminate at the connector yet.

Available Cavities Displays the number of available cavities on the To connector. If the connector does not currently exist, Missing is displayed.

Multicores/Wires to be Routed A column is displayed for each selected or identified wire and multicore following the route. If the wire is assigned to a signal in the Capital Wiring Integrator design, the signal name is displayed as the column name. Otherwise, the wire or multicore name is displayed as the column name. The formatting of the cells in these columns offer guidance: No text and a white background indicates that, for a signal, no wire belonging to that signal is connected to either connector in that stage of the route.

Black text on a white background indicates that the wire is fully routed and connected in that stage of the route.

Red text indicates that only one end of the wire is connected in that stage of the route.

When connectors, wires, and multicores are created in Capital Logic Designer, this table updates to reflect the changes. If you click a wire cell in the table, a tooltip displays additional information about it, including links to any instances of that object in the Capital Wiring Integrator diagram or on the associated Capital Logic Designer diagrams. Click the link to jump to that instance in the diagram window.

					If you click a From or To connector cell in the To-Do List
						table, a tooltip displays an inline connector report that includes
						information about the connector  (see Connector Details Dialog Box for descriptions of the fields). You can
						click the Show connector detail
						icon () at the top right of a connector cell
						tooltip to access the report. It reports on the unrouted wires present
						in the selected route through the inline connector. The report can be
						saved as a CSV file.
