Decomposing a Splice

The Decompose Splice function allows you to split a splice into two and to position the newly created splice in a different location.

Prerequisites

When decomposing a splice, the system applies the currently active harness levels to the resultant splice. You must set the appropriate harness levels as active. See Active Harness Level for information on how to set harness levels as active.

Procedure

  1. Right-click the splice in the diagram or in the Design Browser (Design tab) and choose Decompose Splice. Alternatively, click the splice in the Design Browser (Design tab), press Space Bar and enter Decompose.

  2. The Decompose Splice dialog box displays the wires in the splice. Select the wires that you want to move to a new splice and click the Add button. If you want to move all of the wires to the new splice, click the Add All button.

  3. The wires are added to the New Splice Wires box. You can remove any wires from that box, by selecting them and clicking the Remove button. Click the OK button to exit the dialog box.

  4. The cursor changes to a splice symbol. Move the cursor to the position where you want to place the new splice and click once. See Moving a Splice Manually for more information about moving a splice.

Results

The new splice (with the currently active harness levels applied) is added to the diagram and to the Design Browser (Design tab). Any necessary wires are created.
