Adding and Mapping Modular Inserts to a Connector With Pins
You can add modular inserts and map the associated pins to a modular connector (housing) with existing pins (cavities).
Prerequisites
- A modular connector (housing) with pins (cavities) exists on the diagram.
Procedure
- Select the modular connector in the Diagram window or from the Design Browser to open the Properties Dialog Box:Right-click and select Properties.
Press Alt + Enter.
Double-click the modular connector in the Diagram window.
- Click the Modular Tab (Properties Dialog Box).The tree menu on the left-hand side of the tab shows every position configured against the modular connector, with an icon () indicating that a position is empty. Figure 56: Modular Tab Example The filled position in the tree menu shows a connector icon () if the modular insert does not block a cavity on the parent. The part number of the assigned modular insert is displayed to the right.

- To insert a modular insert to an empty position:Select a position and then click the Library Part ellipsis button (...). The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed, showing only those optional sub‑components available to the selected position.
Select the required part, and then click Insert.The modular insert name is automatically generated and displayed in the Library Part field and to the right of the connector icon in the tree menu, with the blocked cavity in parentheses and italics. You can override the insert name to describe the hierarchy of each connector. Note If any other positions have become blocked, after assigning a sub-component, those positions display a connector icon (). It is not possible to assign a sub‑component to a blocked position.
The Library part and Instance lists show the default mapping between the existing pins and the modular insert pins.
To change the default mapping, use a combination of the following steps:Select one of the mapped pins from the Instance or Library part lists and click Disassociate to unmap. Click Disassociate All to unmap all the pins. Select one of the unmapped pins from the Instance or Library part lists and click Associate to map. Click Associate All to map all the pins. The mapped modular insert pins are displayed in parentheses in the Instance list. The Changes field lists the changes that will be made to the Instance pins when you click OK. See Figure 56.
When the required pins are mapped, click OK.

Results
Depending on your chosen mapping, the existing pins are renamed and any associated modular inserts are displayed under the connector in the Design Browser.
