Capital Publisher Overview

Capital Publisher is a service documentation preparation and generation tool. It provides a single integrated source for the wiring data of a project (which may be for an automotive, or an aerospace product line), in an easy-to-use interface. Most significantly, use of packages created by Capital Publisher can significantly reduce time, effort, and associated costs of troubleshooting wiring systems.

Capital Publisher works with logical schematics, wiring diagrams or harness designs, and embellishes them with manufacturing data and comment graphics. This data can then be combined with external information such as component location diagrams, or connector face views to automatically produce intelligent, vehicle specific, documentation packages that can be combined with, or replace an existing service documentation flow.

The smart documentation packages offer dynamic interaction between system design, harness design and location views, including cross-highlighting. All of which allow service technicians to digitally analyze wire routes, bundle contents and their protections without first having to physically dismantle vehicles so enabling rapid troubleshooting and repair.

This Guide details how to view the generated Service Documentation packages. The following packages are available:

  • Smart HTML client package — a fully interactive web application, viewable through any standard web browser. All of the diagrams are in SVG (Scalar Vector Graphics) format, with full intelligent cross-highlighting, signal tracing, and links to other resources. This package includes vehicle-specific diagram filtering, based upon VIN data downloaded from an external database, or via pre-defined vehicle configurations. This package is also supported on a Windows tablet device, iPads and MAC OS (Safari browser only).
  • CGM package — creates a folder structure containing interactive CGM (Computer Graphics Metafile) files that can be read directly, or deployed into an organization's existing framework for delivering service documentation.
  • Capital Explorer — produces a licensed executable file that spawns a self-contained viewer enabling the display of, and interaction with the generated documentation for internal viewing.
  • Mobile package — produces a package for viewing, and interacting with, on an Apple iPad®.
  • PDF package — a PDF package that includes wiring diagrams in a selected scope, and additional documentation such as 2D location views, connector face views and embedded reports.
  • S1000D package — documentation packages that conform to the S1000D standards. The generated package includes CGM diagrams for each of the wiring schematics and XML files for each system that contains the wiring information.
  • Change Illustrator package — a documentation package comprising design version comparisons in a stand-alone, configurable smart client that provide immediate change notification.
  • Smart Flow package — a package that enables customers and users to easily capture their work flows and processes and present the results in a highly visual and interactive format. The smart flow packages can connect multiple levels of customer work flows, and link them to both local and online supporting materials, such as PDF documents, video files, online help and web pages. For configuration information see the Smart Flow Packager in the Capital Publisher User Guide. For information on creating smart flows see Smart Flows in the Capital Logic User Guide.
