Synchronizing Wiring Changes with the 3D Electrical Context
You can synchronize changes in the associated Capital Logic Designer designs with the 3D electrical context. This step is required if changes have been made to associated Capital Logic Designer designs since they were associated.
Note
Synchronization occurs automatically when you open the 3D electrical context (even in read‑only mode).
Restrictions and Limitations
To avoid unconnected wires when synchronizing plugs to device slot connectors, the plugs in the logical design must be device harness connectors (connected to a device). By default, the system considers unconnected plugs to be inline connectors which cannot be matched by name to slot connectors.
Prerequisites
- The Capital Logic Designer designs must be associated with the 3D electrical context. See Wiring Design Association in 3D Electrical Design.
Procedure
To synchronize wiring changes:
- Click the Refresh Wiring button () in the Design Browser of the Capital navigator window.
Caution
You should be aware of the following:
If you change the wiring design association for logical designs that are open in another session, the changes are not reflected in the logical designs which are already associated with the 3D electrical context. You must click the Refresh Wiring button () in the electro-mechanical design to refresh the associated wiring designs that would reflect the changes applied in the other sessions.
If you make any changes in the associated wiring designs, the Refresh Wiring button is updated with a prompt to perform the action again ().
Results
If logical objects have changed names, been created or deleted, the associations with objects in the 3D electrical context change accordingly.
The Sync tab in the Capital Output Window displays any messages or errors related to this action.
If a modular connector has an unused child connector that is not placed in the associated Capital Logic Designer design, the Wiring Browser displays only the placed parent and placed child connectors as active; the unplaced child connector is dimmed. The Design Browser does not display the unplaced child connector.
If the synchronization process finds a change to a device that means it is now obsolete, the device and its corresponding wiring is updated accordingly in the 3D electrical context and the Sync tab provides details of the changes:
If the process finds a change to a device that is placed, the device is removed and the placement status is updated with a message in the Sync tab.
If the process finds a change to a device that is not placed, there is no change.After placing devices in their assigned slots, the synchronization process places the connectors attached to each device as well. If there are leftover connectors that have not been placed yet, the system tries to match and place them into slot connectors based on their names. This placement is visible in the Design Browser. When a device is used in more than one slot, its relevant connectors are displayed in each slot’s Connectors node automatically. Note When importing designs from MCAD, sometimes the system does not receive complete device information. In these cases, the system creates slots using the connector names and places the corresponding slot connectors there.
The synchronization process lists the logical objects under the respective harnesses to which they belong.
The action updates the routing status of conductors that belong to placed devices:
When the connection between two placed devices is established without any missing component, the conductor is categorized into Unassigned if there is no signal association defined with it. If a conductor has a signal associated with it in that scenario, it is categorized based on the signal assignment (any attribute or property). It includes wires, splices, and shields.
If a wire does not find a route, it is categorized into Unrouted. A user will need to run the Routing Assistant to find the desirable path and implement it. See Routing Assistant in 3D Electrical Design.
