Associating a Modular Insert

You can assign a connector (as a child sub-connector insert) to a matching configured position specified on a modular parent connector.

Prerequisites

  • The harness contains one or more parent modular connectors, that are configured with a sub-connector insert in their housing definition that matches the connector to be associated. See “Modular Connector” in the Capital Component Manager User Guide for full configuration information.

Procedure

  1. Right-click the connector to be associated as a sub-connector (either on the diagram or in the Harness Design Browser) and select Associate Connector. The Associate Connector dialog box displays all connectors on the design with one or more modular positions defined that match the selected child connector.

  2. Click the plus (+) symbol to view the available positions.

  3. Click to select the position into which the sub-connector should be inserted.Note You can only select a position that is empty. A position is not empty (and displays unavailable) if: A sub-connector is currently assigned to this position. A sub-connector insert (assigned to another position) is configured to block this position. A wire or cavity component (terminal, seal, plug, or extra cavity component) is inserted into a cavity that blocks this position. See Modular Connectors Overview.

  4. Click OK. A message is displayed asking you to confirm that the sub-connector should be moved to a new position on the bundle configuration.

  5. Click Yes to confirm.

Results

  • The sub-connector is repositioned according to the settings configured for the currently applied style set. See also the Diagram Styling User Guide.

  • If the parent connector is a Purchase Part, the system sets its Included On BOM attribute to match the setting of its library definition. It sets the attribute to False for any child insert connectors. See also Modular Connectors Overview.
