Instance of a Shared Function as a Symbol

You can add an instance of a shared function that has a symbol associated with it to a diagram as a symbol.

In the Shared Objects Browser Window either: Right-click the shared function you want to add an instance of and select Add Shared Function.

Double-click the function you want to add an instance of.

The Add Shared Function Dialog Box displays.

  1. If you did not access the dialog box via the Shared Objects Browser Window, select the current shared object that you want to add a new instance of.

  2. Select Symbol Selection.Note If the Symbol Selection is unavailable it indicates that the shared function has no associated symbol.

  3. In the symbols list, select the symbol that you want to use.

  4. Click OK.The symbol is displayed next to the cursor.

  5. Click where you want to place the function instance.Tip When placing a symbol you can rotate the symbol by pressing R on the keyboard and you can flip it by pressing F on the keyboard.

Results

  • The shared object instance is added to the diagram.

  • In the Design Browser Window the new instance of the shared object is shown as a child node of the shared object.

Note

When you create more than one instance of a shared object, cross-references are displayed next to the instances in the diagrams. See Cross-References on Objects.

You cannot resize a symbol in a functional design. If you want to resize a symbol graphic, you must use Capital Symbol Designer and then update the symbol graphic in the diagram. See Updating Symbols.
