Merging Formboards

Use the Formboard Manager ribbon actions to merge two or more existing formboards.

Prerequisites

• You have created a new merged design and selected two member designs as in Preparing to Merge or Combine Formboards.

• You have set any required Formboard Manager Preferences in the Formboard Manager Ribbon Tab.

• The design is open.

Tip

Always check the tool-tips, displayed in the left-hand side of the Status Bar, for dynamic information about the actions you can take at any point in the process.

Procedure

1. Add the complete content from one member design to the merged formboard diagram:Select the required member design by clicking into its preview window.The preview window border becomes highlighted.

Click the Place All action on the Formboard Manager Ribbon Tab. The process automatically places the whole content of the selected member design onto the merged formboard diagram. Instead of using Place All, you could have optionally used Place/Merge. Note See “Merged or Combined Content Color Display” for more information about how the process highlights content on member and merged designs throughout the merge process.

2. (Optional) Close the first member design preview window and resize the second member design window, to give yourself more room on screen.

3. At this point you can merge and place content automatically or manually. If you want to...

Do the following...

Automatically merge content.

Highlight the harness in the other preview window and click the Merge All Matching ribbon action The process compares the member and merged designs, looks for common identical content that it can merge. See “Formboard Manager Ribbon Tab” for details about this action.

A message box displays information about the content that can be automatically merged.

Click Close.

											The process automatically merges
											the content onto the merged design.

You can now manually place or merge any remaining bundles that have not been automatically merged, based on your requirements. See the following steps.

Manually merge and place content into the merged formboard design in a step by step process.

Select the Place/Merge action (use Shift+Place/Merge to start the action in continuous mode) from the ribbon.

Click the required bundle from the member design.

Click the related bundle on the merged formboard design. If the selected content is equal: The bundle and all its associated components are automatically merged by the process.

If the selected content is not equal the system prompts you with a message box offering choices of actions you can take.

Continue to manually select and merge content from the member to the merged design as in the previous steps.

Use the Place Remaining ribbon action to add any content from the member design that is not already placed or merged.

4. You can merge further harnesses by closing a preview harness, selecting the required harness and repeating Step 3.

5. At any point, you can stop merging, save, close, and re-open the design. See “Stopping and Restarting Merging”.
