Add Connector Dialog Box
To access: Press Space Bar and enter Connector (requires click to place on design).
Used to add a connector to a design, either by defining a new connector part, or by associating a connector part from the library.
Description
Connector Orientations
Note
You can specify the angles of your connector when adding a connector to a design.
The following illustrations and clocking symbols are viewed perpendicular to the face of the connector, and angles are measured anticlockwise with reference to the X-vector (east) on the drawing (green centerline on the clocking symbol).
Backshell Orientation
The Backshell Orientation is the angle of the backshell in relation to the formboard, rotated around the bundle exit vector (blue arrow on the clocking symbol).

Keyway Orientation
The Keyway Orientation is the angle between the bundle exit and the connector keyway (blue diamond on the clocking symbol).

Elevated Keyway Orientation
The Elevated Keyway Orientation is the angle between the X-vector (east) on the drawing (green centerline on the clocking symbol) and the connector keyway.

| Name | A unique label for the connector (within this design). Type a name, or click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the field to select from a list of pre-specified connector names maintained in the project’s Object Type Information in Capital Project Manager. If this field is left blank, the connector is named according to any default name configured for the project in Capital Project Manager. Optional. |
| Short Description | Automatically displays the Short Description field of the connector if already defined in Capital Project Manager. If no predefined information exists, you can enter and edit the Short Description. This attribute is then made available for use in styling and for search queries. Optional. |
| Library Part | Specifies an association with a connector in the library. Select the required library part number type (Internal, Customer, or Supplier) and click the ellipsis (...) button. The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed to search for and insert a connector from the library. Click the button to view details for the associated part. Click the button to remove the associated part. Optional. |
| Attributes Table | If a library part is selected, all attributes for which values can be specified against the library part are completed and set to read-only. |
| Assembly | Specifies the connector is part of an assembly. Read-only. |
| Backshell Orientation | Specifies the orientation of any associated backshell relative to the connector, enabling the backshell clocking symbol to be rotated, using conditional styling, to the appropriate angle. By default, this field is empty; it can be populated by bridging in external data using the Change Manager (which can be overridden if required) or you can enter a value between 0 and 359. Optional. Note A value of 0, when styled, results in the backshell clocking symbol being rotated to the 3 position on a clock face. See “Usage Example - Displaying Connector Clocking Symbols” in the Capital Diagram Styling User Guide to style connector clocking symbols. |
| Backshell Plugged | Specifies that any backshell selected for the connector should have plugs fitted to its backshell seal wherever an empty cavity exists. With this option selected, the system selects the correct plugs from the backshell seal’s housing definition. This field is only editable if the Backshell Seal Required option is selected. Optional. |
| BOM ID | Specifies a unique identifier to be displayed against the component in the Bill of Materials table, the Composite BOM table and in Bill of Material reports generated from Capital E/E Reporter. This attribute is only available when a library part is assigned. Optional. BOM IDs can be automatically prefixed in tables and reports based on project preferences you have configured. |
| Color Code | Specifies the color of the connector, and populates the associated Color Description. Optional. |
| Color Description | Displays the description of the specified color code. Read-only. |
| Connector Assembly | Specifies the assembly object contains a connector within it. Read‑only. |
| Datum | Specifies the point within the connector to which terminating wires should have their lengths measured. The default datum selection is specified for the harness design in the Edit Harness Details Dialog Box, but can be changed to Back, Front, or Tip. Term. Mandatory. |
| Elevated Keyway Orientation | Specifies the orientation of the connector’s keyway (if present), enabling the elevated keyway clocking symbol to be rotated, using conditional styling, to the appropriate angle. By default, this field is empty; it can be populated by bridging in external data using the Change Manager (which can be overridden if required) or you can enter a value between 0 and 359. Optional. |
| Greased | Specifies that the connector should have grease applied. Optional. |
| Harness | Used for mapping Capital Logic Designer objects to Capital Harness Designer harnesses during synchronization. See Specifying the Harness Attribute for an Object in the Capital Logic Designer User Guide. Default is the current harness design name. Enter a new name, or click the ellipsis (...) button to select from a list of pre-specified harness names maintained in the project’s Object Type Information in Capital Project Manager. Optional. |
| IDC | Specifies the connector is an Insulation Displacement Connector. Read-only. |
| Included On BOM | Specifies whether the connector should be ignored when generating a bill of materials during engineering calculations (cleared) or whether it should be included (selected). Also applies to any components associated with this one, see also Included On BOM Setting. Optional. |
| Is Primary Position | Specifies that this connector is the original connector instance from which one or more variant position connectors have been created. Read-only. See also Adding a Variant Position Connector. |
| Keyway Orientation | Specifies the orientation of the connector’s keyway (if present), enabling the keyway clocking symbol to be rotated, using conditional styling, to the appropriate angle. By default, this field is empty. You can enter a value between 0 and 359. Optional. |
| MCad ID | If the harness was bridged in from another application (such as Capital Harness Classic or an MCAD application), this field displays the component's unique identifier as derived from the external data. Read‑only. |
| Name | The label specified for the connector. Only displays when viewing the Attributes table in the Cavity Component Management Dialog Box. Read-only. |
| Number of Cavities | Specifies the number of cavities the connector has. If a Library Part is associated with the connector, this field displays the value assigned to that part and is locked. Otherwise, a value other than zero must be entered. Mandatory. |
| Part Number | The unique name identifying the library part associated with this connector. Only displays when viewing the Attributes table in the Cavity Component Management dialog box. Read-only. |
| Plugs Required | Select to apply plugs to all of the cavities without a terminating wire and override any cavity-level selections. If cleared, the option in the Cavity Component Management Dialog Box to manually select a plug part from within the Plug P/N field of the Cavity Details table, is unavailable. Optional. |
| Primary Position Connector | If this is a variant connector, this field specifies the Name of the original connector, of which this is a variant. Read-only. |
| Sealed | Specifies that the connector's cavities should be sealed. When selected, this option is applied to all of the connector's cavities, but can be overridden for each individual cavity in the Edit Wires Dialog Box. Appropriate seals are selected automatically for cavities with terminating wires; an appropriate backshell seal is also selected by default, but this can be overridden in Cavity Component Management. Optional. |
| Terminal Material Driver | Specifies the terminal material to be selected for all of the connector’s cavities during Cavity Component Management. Select a material code from the dropdown list. Optional. Note This attribute specifies the Terminal Material value for any wire end terminating at this connector. If a different terminal material is specified against the cavity on the Details tab of the Edit Wires Dialog Box, that value is used instead. |
| Unwired Terminals Required | Specifies that terminals should be selected for unwired cavities during Cavity Component Management and harness processing Part Selection. |
| Level | If the current harness design has been synchronized with a Capital Systems Integrator design, this field displays the harness levels in which the connector exists. See also Synchronizing from a Capital Systems Integrator Design. Read-only. |
| Option | Specifies the derivatives in which the connector exists. To create or edit an option expression, click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the field and use the Edit Option Expression Dialog Box. Alternatively, you can enter or modify an option expression directly within the field. Optional. |

| Routes Tab | This tab holds the routes by which wires can enter, and terminate within, a dressed connector, enabling the calculation of add-on and knock-off values, as required by the dressed connector’s design. When first placing a connector, the routes table offers a single line with the fields listed below. If additional bundles are terminated at the connector after it is placed (for example, in a multiple-entry connector, or fuse box) the table is updated to list the additional routes. |
| Node | The node at which a bundle enters the connector. Read-only. This field shows: With a single bundle terminating at the connector: Main Node. With multiple bundles terminating at the connector: The start node and end node of the terminating bundle. |
| Route | If a Library Part is associated with the connector, the routes configured against that part can be selected from the dropdown list. If no Library Part is associated, a name for the route can be entered into the field. Optional. |
| Additional Components Tab | See Additional Components Tab Dialog Box. |
| Modular Tab | This tab displays any positions available on a modular connector (housing) and enables you to assign sub-connectors to those positions. See also Adding a Modular Connector. |
| Position List | This tree menu shows every position configured against a modular connector. To assign a sub-connector to a position, select the position, specify a Name (if required), and then select a Library Part. Positions can be empty, filled, or blocked, as indicated by the following icons: — the position is empty. You can select this position and assign a sub-connector insert. — the position has an associated sub-connector insert. The sub-connector part number is displayed to the right of the icon. — it is not possible to assign a sub-connector insert to this position. The position is blocked by: A sub-connector insert (assigned to another position) that is configured to block this position. A wire or cavity component (terminal, seal, plug, or extra cavity component) that is inserted into a cavity that blocks the position of the sub-connector insert. If you have selected a Library Part for the backshell, this list displays all termination names configured against the library part. If no Library Part has been specified, to add terminations type a name into the field underneath, and then click Add. To remove manually added terminations, select them in the list and then click Delete. |
