Adding an Instance of a

Shared Splice

You can add an instance of a shared splice on a diagram.

Prerequisites

The shared spliceto add an instance of must already exist in the project. See Promoting a Splice or Creating a Shared Splice Based on a Symbol.

This video demonstrates how to promote a splice to be a shared object and how to add an instance of the shared object to a diagram:

Procedure

To select the shared splice:Press Space Bar and enter Add Shared Splice. The Add Shared Splice dialog box is displayed. See Add Shared Dialog Boxes. In the Current Shared Splice list, select the shared splice.

In the Shared Objects Browser: Right-click the shared splice and select Add Shared Splice.

Double-click the shared splice.

The cursor changes to . If the shared splice has a symbol associated with it the symbol is displayed next to the cursor.

Click to place the shared object instance.

Results

The shared object instance is added to the diagram.
In the Design Browser the new instance of the shared object is shown as a child node of the shared object.

Note

In Capital Logic Designer, you cannot add a pin to a (shared or non-shared) splice. You can create multi-pin splices in Capital Component Manager based on a symbol, and create multi-pin shared splices based on a symbol (with or without a library part association) in Capital Project Manager. See “Splices” in the Capital Component Manager User Guide or “Shared Splice” in the Capital Project Manager User Guide.

You cannot add a symbol to a shared splice that was created without a symbol. Pins on shared splices are always unrestricted. When you add a new instance of a shared splice, all the pins in the shared object definition are added to the new instance. When you create more than one instance of a shared object, cross‑references are displayed next to the instances on the diagrams. See Cross-References on Objects or Pins.
