Placing ICDs Without Assigning Part Numbers or Footprint Details

This workflow supports instantiating ICDs into your designs but delaying the part number and footprint assignation until the platform design stage. It enables system architects to release logical designs earlier in the design flow and component engineers to work concurrently with wiring and platform designers to filter late changes to footprint I/O through to designs.

Prerequisites

• ICDs have been created in Capital Device Modeler

• Select the Do not propagate part and footprint details project preference.

Procedure

1. Select a device from the Unplaced folder and drag it on to the diagram. With the project preference set, the system does not propagate library part and footprint information on to the device

2. To support traceability, a property in the Object Properties dialog box (Associated ICDs) displays the name of the ICD and its revision.Used to establish which ICD and version is associated with the device. This information is used during the platform design stage where a constraint reads the part and footprint information from the ICD in Capital Device Modeler.

3. Design Rule Checks ensure the Associated ICD property is aligned with the correct ICD definition.
