Module Browser

The functional module code and production module code tabs are located on the lower-left side of the application window. They enable the visualization of all objects on the currently open design, grouped together into folders by code assignation. Objects are further grouped together in each folder by component type.

The folders are organized into a tree structure containing nodes for each module code applicable for this design. Objects are grouped on these nodes based on their assigned module code, or codes.

If an object is assigned either a user or generated single code expression, it will be displayed under that node. However, if it has both a user and a generated code, it will only be displayed under its user code. Any assigned generated codes are displayed in the tooltip visible when hovering over the object.

For example, if a wire has been tagged with a user functional module code and following module assignation also gets tagged with technical module codes, say because it is assigned to a splice, this wire while still being associated with the newly generated technical module codes will remain visible under its original functional module code. If you subsequently want to change its functional assignation from, for example FM1 to FM2, you must first use the Clearing Module Codes actions to clear generated module codes before dragging and dropping it to its new Functional Module Code. Technical Assignation must then be rerun on the splice to reassign the correct Technical Module Codes.

Additional component and cavity component information is also displayed in the Module browser. By default additional and cavity components do not usually have, or need, module codes assigned as composite breakdown manages such components distribution. However, when they are displayed in the Module browser particular rules govern how these components have their module codes assigned (if required) and displayed when they are dragged and dropped between nodes:

  • If an additional component has no module code assigned, it displays the module code assignation of its parent component.

  • If you drag an additional component to the Unassigned folder, it again still displays the module code assignation of its parent component.

  • If an additional component is dragged away from, and then back to its original component, it will have any module codes that may have subsequently been applied removed, as it will once again display the module codes of its parent component.

  • A DRC (Related Objects Assigned Different Module Codes) checks the validity of codes assignments and reports when related objects have been assigned different module codes.

  • Mandatory additional components cannot be separated from their parents by drag and drop.

To select a module code folder or an object within it, first navigate through the folder structure before clicking on the object name: the selected object is highlighted on the diagram. Each object entry in the Module browser offers all of the right-click options available to the object on the diagram, with the exception of delete.

Note

To delete objects from the diagram, you must first right-click and select Select Diagram Object > Delete from the context menu.

You are also able to access the following Module Code Assignation options for an object by right-clicking it to open the context menu and selecting Modular >

  • Assign Functional Module Codes

  • Assign Production Module Codes

  • Clear User Functional Module Codes

  • Clear User Production Module Codes

  • Clear Generated Functional Module Codes

  • Clear Generated Production Module Codes

Unassigned objects (objects that have no module codes assigned) are grouped under an Unassigned folder at the bottom of the tree structure.

You can copy or drag and drop objects between the module code folders and from the Unassigned folder into the other module code folders in the tree. You may also move objects. The system dynamically checks data integrity during any re-assignation process to ensure the predefined module relationships are respected.

Note

You can copy the same wire to multiple technical module code folders.

If you attempt to assign an object to a module where an exclusive relationship is stipulated, the assignation is not valid and a no entry icon (), is displayed.

Viewing Module Content

The View Module Content button (), available on the module tabs, helps highlight particular objects tagged with module codes on the diagram. Click the View Module Content button, select one or more module codes for which you want to view objects on the diagram and use the slider control () to highlight or dim your selection. This control can also be used to view objects that are not assigned to any module codes.

You can also click the View Module Content button and select single objects in the Output Window, to see them highlighted on the diagram. Press Ctrl and select one, or more, objects to view multiple items on the diagram, showing their structure and location on the harness assembly. When a number of objects are highlighted, hovering over items nominally on the diagram, but not selected in the Output window, displays a “ghost” image on the diagram where the object would be located.

Module Scratchpad

The module scratchpad enables you to collect a set of objects together that you may ultimately assign to a common module code. You can drag and drop objects from the Module Code browser. Objects may be sorted by their type or name. To access the scratchpad, either:

  • Select View

Scratchpad.

  • Click Alt+S. Note In addition to being able to drag and drop objects from the Module Code browser, dragging objects from the Harness Design Browser to the Module Explorer and Module Scratchpad is also permitted.
