Overview

of Shared Net Equivalence Sets

To connect a conductor (net or wire) to objects in multiple designs, you can use Capital Project Manager to create “shared conductors” that can connect to circuits in more than one design within a project.

Equivalence sets enable shared nets to be grouped and considered electrically identical (that is, electrically equivalent). For example, if three shared nets are present on three separate designs, and all three must represent the same +12V signal, including the three nets in the same equivalence set will ensure the same electrical function.

Equivalence sets enable the shared net present in existing (re-usable) designs to be included in further projects.

When creating an equivalence set in Capital Project Manager, you must select one of its nets as the Representative net for that equivalence set. Once selected, the name of the representative net is automatically used as the name of the equivalence set. In Capital Logic Designer, you can insert shared nets onto a design diagram. See also Adding an Instance of a Shared Wire, Net, Highway, or Single Line.

You can set project preferences or style set preferences to display cross-references when a shared net that is part of an equivalence set is placed onto a logical diagram. The cross-references include the nets in the same equivalence set that have been placed in a design, in addition to other instances of the same shared object. Note

Equivalence sets can only contain shared nets, they cannot contain shared wires.

  • You can only include a shared net in one equivalence set, it will not be available for inclusion in further equivalence sets.

  • You must remove a shared net from an equivalence set before it can be included in another equivalence set.

A logical design containing shared nets that are part of an equivalence set can also be associated with an Integrator design to synthesize the wiring. Signal names in Capital Systems Integrator use the name of the representative shared net whenever a shared net in an equivalence set is used. This means that all shared nets in the same equivalence set are shorted together in Capital Systems Integrator.
