Design-Wide Object

You can add an instance of an existing design‑wide object to a diagram. You can add a second instance of a non‑shared, non‑design‑wide object to a diagram to create a new design‑wide object.

Prerequisites

The non-shared object to add an instance of is already added to the design.

Procedure

In the Design Browser, double-click the top node of the non‑shared object.If the object is a device, plug, jack, inline, ring terminal, or block that has pins, the relevant Place dialog box is displayed. See Place Dialog Boxes.
If the object is a splice, wire, net, highway, or single line, or a device, plug, jack, inline, ring terminal, or block that does not have pins, move to Step 6.
If the object is a device with an associated symbol, select Pin Selection to add a parameterized object instance or select Symbol Selection to add the object instance as a symbol.
To add a parameterized object instance:In the Select Pins table, select or multi‑select the pins to place on the object. If you choose to place pins individually, they will display in the order selected in the table.

Choose to place pins Individually, As Group, or As Stack. Alternatively, if you are adding an instance of a design‑wide device or block, you can select Auto-Generate.

If you are adding an instance of a design‑wide device, plug, jack, inline, or ring terminal, choose whether to place pins As Reference.

To add the object instance as a symbol: In the symbols list, select the symbol to use.

Click Place.
Place the object on the diagram as you would when placing a new object.If you are placing pins on the object instance, the cursor changes to . Circles highlight locations on the object where you can place pins, and dotted gray lines / boxes highlight locations outside the object where you can place pins.
If you are not placing pins, skip the remaining steps in this procedure.
To place pins individually, as a group, or stack, hover over the location where you want to place the pins.The cursor changes to .
Click to place the pins.
To place multiple pins individually, repeat Steps 8 and 9.

Results

The design-wide object instance is added to the diagram and is added to the Design Browser as a child node of the design‑wide object node.
The pins are placed on the device. The object stretches to include any pins placed outside its boundaries.
