Placing Ports

on an Instance of a Shared Function

You can place ports that already exist in the shared object definition of a shared function, but have not yet been placed on an instance of the shared function, onto an instance of the shared function. You can also place unplaced ports, unrestricted ports and, if the “Disallow pin/port duplication within a design” project preference is not selected, duplicate instances of ports placed on instances of the shared function in the same design. In designs in the active build list you can also place duplicate instances of ports placed on instances of the shared function in designs outside the active build list.

Prerequisites

You have added a function to a diagram and promoted it to be shared.
The ports that you want to place on the object already exist in the shared object’s shared object definition. See Editing a Shared Port List for a description of how to add ports to the shared object definition of a shared function.

Procedure

Either:Select the object instance. Press Space Bar and enter Add Port.

Right-click the object instance and select Add Port.

Select the object instance and press P.

The Place Ports Dialog Box [Shared Objects] displays. Note If you share a function that has no ports the Add Port action will be unavailable until you add a port to the function’s shared object definition. The Add Port action may be unavailable due to a domain restriction on the associated shared object definition. If you require access to this action on an object then please contact your system administrator. For further information on access restrictions due to Domain settings see Domains in the Capital Access Manager User Guide.

In the Select Ports table, select the ports you want to place on the object. To select multiple ports hold down the Ctrl key while selecting. If you choose to place ports individually, when you are placing ports on the diagram they will appear in the order in which you selected them in the table.
Choose whether you want to place ports Individually or As Group then click OK.The cursor changes to . Circles indicate locations on the object where you can place the port(s) and dotted gray lines/boxes indicate locations outside the object where you can place the port(s).
If you are placing ports individually move the cursor over the location where you want to place a port. If you are placing ports as a group move the cursor over the location where you want to place the first port of the group.The cursor changes to .
Click to place the port(s).
If you are placing multiple ports individually, repeat Steps 4 and 5.

Results

The port(s) are placed on the function. The function stretches to include any ports placed outside its boundaries.
