Using Design

Rule Checks with Associated Bundles

After creating Associated bundles, you can continue to modify the length of Associated bundles and resize the main insulation graphics which might alter the validity of your design.

You can use the Design Rule Checks (DRC) to evaluate the bundle intersections with the main insulation graphics and determine the relationship between bundles / Associated bundles and the insulation runs.

The bundles must cross a segment (or chord between arc ends) of the main insulation graphic to be considered intersections. The following contacts with the boundary of the main insulation graphic are not calculated as intersections by the Design Rule Checks:

  • Bundle end nodes that terminate on the graphic edge.

  • Bundle segments that form a tangent with the graphic edge.

Note

If a full scale diagram (with the diagram Width option cleared) is open, the DRCs will check against that diagram. If no diagram is open, all the diagrams in the design are checked.

Note

These DRCs also consider the Bundle Association Exclusion design constraint, and will not report on excluded bundles.

Insulation run associated bundle validity

Identifies Associated bundles that are shorter than the insulation run, irrespective of the position of Associated bundle nodes or intersections with the main insulation graphic.

In this example, the Associated bundles do not intersect with the main insulation graphic but the check passes because the Associated bundles are longer than the insulation run.

Incorrect

Identifies Associated bundles that are not covered by the main insulation graphic.

In this example, the checks report a warning because the Associated bundle only intersects at one point on the main insulation. To correct the warning, you can resize the main insulation graphic.

Identifies bundles that intersect with the main insulation graphic but are not associated with the insulation run.

If the main insulation graphic is resized, a warning is reported for the following bundles:

  • Bundles that intersect with one or more segments of the graphic.

  • Bundles with no intersections but include one or more node ends inside the graphic.

If the main insulation graphic is not resized, a warning is reported only if the bundle intersects with the start and ends of the graphic.

DRC

Limitations

The following examples describe more complex DRC results:

  • Limitation 1: Bundle middle segments that are outside the main insulation boundary. The bottom most Associated bundle includes segments that fall outside the boundary of both insulation layer line styles. However, the start and end of this bundle intersect with the main insulation edges.

DRC Result Both Associated bundles pass the DRC for both insulation layers, despite the middle segments, because the start and end segments of both bundles intersect with the main insulation edges.

  • Limitation 2: Associated bundle end nodes that are inside the main insulation boundary. The end node (N57) of an Associated bundle is inside the boundary of both insulation layer line styles and so does not intersect with the main insulation edges.

DRC Result The top Associated bundle: Fails the DRC for the inner insulation layer because the start node does not intersect the main insulation edge.

Passes the DRC for the outer insulation layer because the start and end of the bundle intersect with the main insulation edges.

The bottom Associated bundle fails the DRC for both the insulation layers because the end node of the bundle does not intersect with the main insulation end edges.

  • Limitation 3: Bundle associated to its own defined insulation layer. The BUN700 bundle is associated to INSRUN410.

If the insulation end is moved from the top right bundle to bottom right bundle, the BUN700 bundle remains associated to the insulation.

DRC Result The DRC will not report a warning for this association. See Using Associated Bundles, to disassociate a bundle from an insulation.
