Change Policy

Change policies are defined in Capital Project Manager and are used to control which object attributes and properties a user can interactively create, modify, and delete using the design tools within the Capital suite.

You can also restrict access on a Release Level or object authoring tool basis.

If the user has not been assigned an individual change policy, (see Assigning and Editing Permissions and Change Policies on a User Account), then any change policy associated with a role assigned to the user will be taken as user change policy.

If a user has been assigned multiple roles, (see Assigning and Editing Roles on a User Account), and only one of the roles has been assigned a change policy then it will be taken as the user session's change policy when the user logs in.

If a User has been assigned multiple roles which have had multiple different change policies assigned, then all these policies will be combined into a single policy when the user logs in. This combined policy assumes the most permissive configuration of all the combined policies. This means if a policy 'A' is configured to prohibit an attribute change and policy 'B' is configured to allow the same attribute change, then the combined policy will allow the attribute change.

The combined policy will be displayed as a tooltip on the status bar's user icon as below:

Change Policy Extensibility

You can create your own extensibility plugins to automatically select a change policy based on project, design, diagram, application and the user. For more information about developing and using extensibility plugins, see the PluginDevelopment.pdf file that is located in the doc\plugin folder of your Capital installation.
