Cable Routing Overview
The system calculates the rules and preferences and the parameters specified on the cables and segments to determine the criteria for available segments when you run cable routing.

Methods
You can use multiple routing methods in Capital Cable Router to calculate available segments and visualize the cable routes in the 3D visualization window.
| Routing Method | Description |

| Automatic | Requests to route a cable are submitted to a queue. The system runs a separate Auto-Router that processes the queue and attempts to route the cables. The results of the routing attempt are displayed in Capital Cable Router. If successful, you can evaluate the route, and then accept or reject the proposed route. Cables are routed in the order “first-in” “first-out” of the Auto-Router; however, you can prioritize cables to route them earlier. |
| Interactive | Requires the Start and End nodes of the cable to be specified. Capital Cable Router highlights a selection of available segments leading from the Start or End node. When you select an available segment, the system highlights the next available segments at the end of the selected segment. Continue selecting segments until the Start or End node is reached, or you cancel the action. When all the segments are selected up to the End node, the routing is complete. The Cable status is updated as you select each successive segment, finishing in a "fully‑routed" status. At each node, instead of selecting a segment, you can undo the last selected segment to the previous node, and then continue an alternative route. Unavailable segments are displayed for each node. You cannot select these; however, the reason the segment is unavailable is displayed and may prove useful when evaluating scenarios where a cable seems to be un‑routable. Semi Automatic Routing Identical to Interactive routing, except that the system only highlights one available segment at each node and selects the segment automatically. You are only required to select a segment manually when two or more segments are available. |
Criteria
to Identify Available Segments
The routing methods use the same criteria to identify if a segment on the nodal network is available to select as part of the cable route.
| Criteria | Description |
|---|---|
| Segregation | The Segregation code assigned to the cable must match one of the codes assigned to the segment. |
| Bend radius | The cable type minimum bend radius must be greater than the inner radius of the segment. |
| Hot code | Where the segment traverses an Area associated with a Hot code, the Hot code assigned to the cable type must be greater than or equal to the code assigned to the Area. |
| Block | Additional cable may not traverse a segment specified as “Blocked”. |
| Prohibited node or segment | The cable may not traverse any node or segment specified as “prohibited”. |
| Prohibited zone | The cable may not traverse any node in an Area which belongs to a prohibited Zone. |
| Isolated | The cable may not traverse a segment reserved for other cables. |
| % fill | The cable may not traverse a segment whose % fill is already greater than the specified threshold. |
| Loop | The cable can only traverse a node in the route once. Looping back to revisit a node is prohibited. |
