Generating Production Technical Variations for Single Functions

Production Technical Variations for single functions can be used to accurately calculate costs according to the take rate of the function.

Restrictions and Limitations

  • You cannot generate Production Technical Variant codes on Nested Production Module Codes. You must generate variants from the top-level parent PM code to ensure that all the PM codes in the folder tree are considered when calculating the variants.

Procedure

  1. Select the required PM code in the PM Codes tab, and then select the Generate Production Technical Variations action from the Automate > Modules ribbon. Alternatively, right-click the module folder in the browser and select Modular > Generate Production Technical Variations.The Generate / Simulate Production Technical Variations Dialog Box displays. The dialog box displays the codes selected for variant generation. Figure 453: Generate Production Technical Variations Dialog

  2. Select Generate Production Technical Variations for single function to generate only single function technical variations, or also select Generate Production Technical Variations for PM codes to generate production technical variations for the selected PM codes and for the single functions associated with those codes.
    This option is only available for selection if Module Code is selected.

Technical Variations.

  1. Optional. If the selected PM code is a nested PM code (see Nested Production Module Codes Overview) then select Generate nested variant codes to enable Single / Hierarchical options, for control over how the technical variations will be generated for the nested PM code. See Generate / Simulate Production Technical Variations Dialog Box.

  2. Click OK.

Examples

Generate Production Technical Variations

for single function

The technical variants for the single functions are generated and stored in the PM code folder.

In this example, single function technical variant production modules “VSF-VC_M_C-14-H-Base1” and “VSF-VC_M_C-14-H-FM4” are created and stored in the VC_M_C-14 folder. The objects assigned to those single function technical variant production modules are assigned to a common functional module code.

  • “VSF-VC_M_C-14-H-Base1” contains connector C-14 and wire W18, both of which are assigned the functional module code H-Base1. Figure 455: FM Code Browser Showing Connector C-14 and Wire W18 Assigned H-Base1

  • “VSF-VC_M_C-14-H-FM4” contains only the wire W36 which is assigned a different FM code, H-FM-4. Figure 456: FM Code Browser Showing Wire W36 Assigned H-FM4

Generate Production Technical Variations

for PM codes and single function

The technical variants for the production module and the technical variants for the single functions are generated and stored in the PM code folder.

In this example, the four technical variant production modules and the three single function technical variants are all created a stored in the PM code folder.

for PM codes and Single Function with Single Option

In this example, the option to generate nested variant codes has been selected along with the Single option.

Each level of the nested PM code will be considered as individual codes, and only the components assigned to that level will be considered, including any objects not assigned to an FM code or assigned to one or more technical codes.

Generate Production Technical Variations

for PM codes and Single Function with Hierarchical Option

In this example, the option to generate nested variant codes has been selected along with the Hierarchical option.

Each level of the nested PM code will be considered along with the levels below it, and the components assigned to that level and the components assigned to the levels below it will be considered, together with any objects not assigned to an FM code or assigned to one or more technical codes.

Generate Production Technical Variations

for Single Function With Unassigned Component

In this example, connector C-2705 is not assigned to an FM code. When technical variant codes are generated, it is assigned to a special production variant code.

The production variant code is named “VSF-PM2705”.
