Add Shared Dialog Boxes

To access:

• Press Space Bar and enter Add Shared object (device, plug, jack, inline, ring terminal, or splice).

• From the Shared Objects Browser: Right-click a shared object and select Add Shared object.

Double-click a shared object.

Used to add a new instance of a shared object.

Note

The following descriptions include the fields in all the available Add Shared object dialog boxes.

Objects

Field	Description
Current Shared Device, Current Shared Plug, Current Shared Receptacle, Current Shared Inline, Current Shared Ring Terminal, Current Shared Splice	Not displayed when the dialog box is accessed from the Shared Objects Browser. Lists the shared devices, plugs, jacks, inlines, ring terminals, or splices that exist in the project. Select the object to add a new instance of.
Pin Selection	Displayed only in the Add Shared Device dialog box. Select to create a parameterized shared object instance (that is, not using a symbol).
Symbol Selection	Displayed only in the Add Shared Device dialog box. Not available when creating a new instance of a shared device that does not have a symbol associated with it. Select to create the shared object instance using a symbol.
As Reference	Not displayed in the Add Shared Splice dialog box. Specifies whether the selected pins will be added as reference pins (selected) or not (cleared). The pins displayed in the Select Pins table may change depending on whether or not As Reference is selected. See “Select Pins” below. See Reference Pins.
Load shared details	Not displayed in the Add Shared Splice dialog box. Select to populate certain columns in the Select Pins table for pins placed in designs other than the current design. See Loading Shared Details.
OK	Click to place the selected pins or symbol. Unavailable in the Add Shared Device dialog box, if Symbol Selection is selected and no symbol is selected. Unavailable in the Add Shared Ring Terminal dialog box, if no pin is selected in the table.
Pin selection fields In the Add Shared Device dialog box, the pin selection fields are displayed only if Pin Selection is selected. Not displayed in the Add Shared Splice dialog box.
Select Pins	Not displayed in the Add Shared Splice dialog box. Lists the pins that can be placed on the instance of the shared object. Caution In a multi-user session, the system retrieves pin availability information only when you first open the dialog box. If another user deletes pins or removes pin assignments while the dialog box is open, you must close and reopen it to see which pins are currently available. If the As Reference option is selected, all pins in the shared object definition are listed. If As Reference is cleared, the following rules are used, in the following order, to determine which pins are listed: Unrestricted pins and automatic unplaced pins are listed. Pins reserved for use in a design other than the current design are not listed. Pins in the shared object’s shared pin list (which, for shared objects with library parts, is the pins in the library part definition) but not yet placed on an instance of the shared object are listed. In designs in the active build list, automatic pins placed on instances of the shared object in designs outside the active build list are listed. In designs outside the active build list, pins placed on instances of the shared object in other designs are not listed. Pins that have reference instances but no non-reference instances are shown. If the “Disallow pin/port duplication within a design” project preference is not selected non-reference pins placed on instances of the shared object in the current design are listed. If you delete the last remaining instance of a shared object any pins on the instance are not listed if the design in which the instance was deleted has not been saved since the instance was deleted. If you delete pins from the last remaining instance of a shared object they are not listed if the design in which they were deleted has not been saved since they were deleted. In designs outside the active build list, pins deleted from instances of the shared object are not listed if the design in which they were deleted has not been saved since they were deleted.
Select Pins (continued)	See “Pin Reservation Status” in the Capital Project Manager User Guide for automatic, reserved, and unrestricted pins. Note Unplaced pins are created when you: Delete an instance of a shared object or design-wide object that has pins and is not the last remaining instance of the object. See Design-Wide Objects. Delete a stacked pin but retain the individual pins. See Deleting a Stacked Pin. Press Ctrl when deleting a pin. Unplaced pins are shown in the Unplaced Pins folder under the object in the Design Browser. If the “Purge unplaced objects on Save” project preference is selected unplaced pins on non-shared objects are deleted when a design is saved. Modular insert pin names display the blocked cavity and pin numbers separated by a colon “:” to indicate the hierarchy of pins within inserts. See Modular Connectors. Select or multi‑select the pins to place on the object instance. If you choose to place pins individually on the diagram, they will display in the order selected in this table. See also Select Pins Table.
Symbol View / Connector View	Not displayed in the Add Shared Splice dialog box. Displayed only for objects that have an associated symbol. Displays a zoom-able view of the associated symbol. If the object has multiple symbols associated you can select an alternative one from the Symbol dropdown list. Modular connector symbols show the face views of the connector, modular inserts and pins defined in the Capital Component Manager. See Select Pins Table to cross-highlight pins in the symbol and the table. Read-only.
Place	Not displayed in the Add Shared Ring Terminal dialog box or Add Shared Splice dialog box. Specifies how to place the pins on the object instance: Individually Manually place the selected pins one-by-one. When placing pins on the diagram, they will display in the order selected in the Select Pins table. Auto-Generate Have the pins placed on the object automatically. As Stack Place all the selected pins as a single ‘stacked’ pin. See Stacked Pins. Unavailable if As Reference is selected. This video demonstrates how to add pins as a stack: As Group Place all the selected pins as a group in one click. The pins are placed as individual pins next to each other. You can control the spacing and order of the pins using modifier keys, which are described in a tooltip that is shown when placing the pins. This video demonstrates how to add pins as a group: When indicated by a tooltip, you can press the Shift or Ctrl keys to change between placing Individually, As Group, or As Stack when you are placing the pins.
Symbol selection fields Displayed only in the Add Shared Device dialog box when Symbol Selection is selected.
Symbols	Lists the symbols that are associated with the shared device. Select the symbol to use for this instance.
Symbol	Displays a zoom-able view of the selected symbol. Read-only.
