Placing Pins on an Instance

of a Block

Unconnected device pins and unmated jack (receptacle) pins on the design revision associated with a block in a top level system view can be added to the block. This enables system designers to denote which pins are the designated interface to other systems, preventing connectivity engineers from having to refer to the lower level system designs.

The block pins are representations of the child pin below; they are proxy pins in that they are not the actual pin itself. Instead, they are a reference to the child design pin. Using the functionality enables you to depict signal flow between different systems and provides connectivity into downstream tools, including Capital Systems Integrator and Capital Wiring Integrator, and the use of Capital Analysis to provide verification of the proposed design.

Design rule checks identify unassociated pins and invalid associations on the block, and provide navigation to correct any issues. See Design Rule Checks.

Prerequisites

  • Child designs have been created and associated with the block in the top-level design.

  • Unconnected device pins or unmated jack pins exist on the associated child design.

Procedure

  1. Select the block:Press the space bar and enter Add Pin.

Right-click and select Add Pin.

Press P.

The Place Pins Dialog Box [Blocks] is displayed.

  1. In the Select Pins table, select or multi‑select the pins to place on the block. If you choose to place pins individually on the diagram, they will display in the order selected in the table.

  2. Choose to place pins Individually, As Stack, or As Group, and then click Place.The cursor changes to . Circles indicate locations on the where you can place the pins, and dotted gray lines / boxes indicate locations outside the object where you can place the pins.

  3. If you are placing pins individually, hover over the location where you want to place a pin. If you are placing pins as a group, hover over the location where you want to place the first pin of the group. If you are placing pins as a stack, hover over the location where you want to place the stack.The cursor changes to .

  4. Click to place the pins.

  5. If you are placing multiple pins individually, repeat Steps 4 and 5.

Results

  • The pins are placed on the device. The block stretches to include any pins placed outside its boundaries.
