Merging End Nodes
You can use the Merge Nodes action to merge end nodes on a merged harness where the bundles have different topologies, allowing for more efficient fixture and connector holder reuse.
This action enables you to merge end nodes based on their component connectivity and similarities, regardless of bundle topology.
Restrictions and Limitations
The Merge Nodes action can merge two end nodes at once. If you need to merge more than two end nodes, for example from three different member designs, use the action iteratively.
You cannot use the Merge Nodes action on nodes with multi-entry objects or modular connectors.
Nodes must belong to the same merged harness. You cannot merge nodes between different harnesses on a combined formboard.
Prerequisites
The merged formboard diagram has focus.
Valid nodes are available to merge. These are bundle end structure nodes with the following component types:
Connectors
Ring Terminals
Splices
DevicesNodes must have the same component type.
Nodes must originate from different member designs.
Procedure
Click Merge Nodes ( ) on the Ribbon
Note Status Bar Tool Tips provide dynamic instructions on the actions you can take.Hover over the node to wish to merge into.
The node is highlighted with a green circle. Click to select.Hover over the node you want to merge into the first selected node.
The node is highlighted with a green circle.
Click to select.
Results
The Place / Merge Console Tab displays feedback on the actions you have performed.
The selected end nodes are merged according to these scenarios.
| Scenario | Result |
|---|---|
| If the components at both nodes have the same part number and connectivity. | The system merges the nodes automatically. The second selected node is merged into first. The second selected node component is a removed. The bundle from the second selected node is converted to a Flex Bundle and connected as a loop to the first node. Any fixtures on it are automatically deleted. |
| If the components at both nodes have differences in their part number or connectivity. | A message box displays the following actions. Duplicate The second selected node is merged into first. The second selected node component is moved to first selected node. The bundle from the second selected node is converted to a flex bundle and connected as a loop to the first node. Any fixtures on it are automatically deleted. Force Merge The second selected node is merged into first. The second selected node component is removed The bundle from the second selected node is converted to a flex bundle and connected as a loop to the first node. Any fixtures on it are automatically deleted. Cancel Stops the Merge Node action |
| If you are merging a further node into the result of any of the previously merged scenarios above. | The system automatically merges them if a component is found at both nodes with the same part number and connectivity. If not the you must make the interactive Duplicate or Force Merge choices. |
What to Do Next
Adjust any modified bundle layouts as required.
