Example of Using a Single Prototype Wiring Design for Multiple Configurations

You can use a single, composite prototype wiring design when generating wiring for multiple configurations. Within that design, the configurations for wiring are defined using a Prototype Wiring Expression attribute.

When you run wiring synthesis, wiring from the single composite prototype wiring design is used for the appropriate configuration provided that the options used in the prototype wiring expressions are present in the Capital Systems Integrator design or in at least one of the associated Capital Logic Designer designs.

In this example, you have a simple Capital Logic Designer design that you use as a prototype. The design is called CompositePrototypeDesign_START.

It contains one signal with the name START:

The devices STARTER_PETROL and STARTER_DIESEL belong to different options (PETROL and DIESEL).

In the associated Capital Systems Integrator design (called simply Integrator Design), they are placed in different slots:

In the Capital Systems Integrator design, you want to use one Prototype Wiring constraint to control the use of the composite prototype Capital Logic Designer design as the prototype for the generated wiring for signal START.

You open the Edit Prototype Wiring dialog box (for example, by right-clicking the diagram window and choosing Edit Prototype Wiring.

In that dialog box, you add one constraint as follows: Use wiring from CompositePrototypeDesign_START:1 in configuration for Singal Name = START

You do not need to specify a particular configuration (DIESEL or PETROL) in the constraint because you are using a composite prototype design that contains wiring for both configurations.

In the prototype design in Capital Logic Designer, you specify the option expressions that will be applied to the generated wires based on this prototype. To do this, select all of the wires and choose Prototype Expressions. See Specifying Prototype Wire Expressions on Wires and Prototype Wire Expressions Dialog Box in the Capital Logic Designer User Guide for full details about how to do this.

In the Prototype Wire Expressions dialog box, edit the Prototype Wire Expression values. In this example, the values in that column are the same as the option expressions on the wires in the prototype design (as displayed in the Option Expression column).

Note

You can view a read-only version of the Prototype Wire Expressions dialog box in Capital Systems Integrator. To do so, select one or more wires in the diagram window or Design Browser (Design tab) and choose Prototype Expressions.

When you run wiring synthesis in Capital Systems Integrator and then visualize the wiring for the signal START, you can see that wiring synthesis has generated wiring for both the DIESEL and PETROL configurations.

Note

If there is a mismatch between a configuration specified in the Prototype Wiring constraint and a prototype wire expression, synthesis will generate a wire but will ignore the prototype. After wiring synthesis, this is reported in the Synthesis tab in the Output Window with the message: The prototype wire for signal was ignored because of a mismatch in prototype wire expression compared to the prototype constraint configuration .
