Additional Components

Tab Dialog Box

To access: Click the Additional Components tab / button in various dialog boxes throughout the application.

Used to add, edit, and delete additional components for harness objects.

Objects

Field	Description
Additional Components Table	Lists any components within the object’s housing definition that can be selected as additional components. Components specified as Mandatory in the housing definition are normally selected by default (See “Mandatory”), as are any components specified as Customer with a customer part number for the customer assigned to the harness design. Components specified as Optional can be selected or removed. In addition, lists components that are not part of the housing definition but that are currently applied to the object.
Mandatory	Select or clear the check box to choose a mandatory component. Mandatory components are displayed in gray in the table. Optional. If you choose to clear a mandatory component, a warning message is displayed confirming your action and informing you that the mandatory component will be automatically re-selected if Harness Processing is run with the “Select Mandatory Component Part Numbers” option enabled. If you clear the mandatory component, it is not added to the additional components on the node. The next time the dialog box is invoked the component is shown as cleared. You can reselect the entry and the component will again be added as a mandatory component. Any new components added (mandatory / optional) to the housing definition in the library will show up as cleared in the table.
Name	Enter a unique name for the additional component. Displays red if the name you enter is already used for a harness object additional component on the diagram.
Part	The component part number. Read-only.
Revision	The revision of the additional component. Read-only.
Description	The descriptive text entered against the component. Read-only.
Qty	The amount or quantity of the additional component to be added, as dictated by the value in the Unit field. For mandatory components, this field is read-only.For optional components, this field can be amended (make sure that you click out of the field following amendment to confirm the new value). If an optional component is selected for inclusion, this value cannot be zero.
Unit	The measurement used to record the amount or quantity of this component to be added. Possible values are: Each, Per Weight, Per Length, Per Roll/Reel, As Required. Read-only.
Group	The Group Name to which this component belongs. Read-only.
Option Expression	Displays the option expression. To create or edit an option expression, click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the field and use the Edit Option Expression Dialog Box. Alternatively, you can enter or modify an option expression directly within the field. Optional.
Position	A dropdown list containing available positions for the component. For optional components, positions, as defined in Capital Component Manager, are displayed. Optional. For non-housing components, all available positions are displayed. Optional. For mandatory components. Read-only. If you are configuring fixture additional components in the housing tab, you can use the Position field to group similar objects, such as shafts and markers. See also “Fixtures”.
Add	Opens the Part Selection Dialog Box to search for a component that is not part of the housing definition. When you select a part, it is listed in the Additional Components table.

Usage Notes

• If you are using Design Access Control, the relevant application Change Policy must allow you to edit the corresponding main node component in order to edit or select its Additional Components. Objects added as Additional Components are subject to the Additional Components Change Policy, irrespective of their own object type. See Design Content Control Overview.

• To add a property to the design, click the New button, enter a Property Name in the New Property Dialog Box, and then click OK. The new property is added to the list.

• If you run the “Select Mandatory Components” action or use the “Select Mandatory Component Part Numbers” option while running harness processing then all the mandatory components are reselected.
