Creating a Detailed
Design From a Block Design
You can automatically create a detailed system design from your system block design.
Prerequisites
You have created a system block diagram as in Creating a System Block Design.
The design is not currently open.
Procedure
Right-click the required block design in the Design Browser and select Create Detailed Design. The Create Detailed Designs dialog box is displayed.
Complete the details for the new design and click OK.
Results
An initial new detailed design is automatically generated based on the original block diagram.
The blocks have been converted to devices. The devices inherit the same name.
The highways have been converted to nets. The system assigns a new name to the nets.
The system has automatically created the property Implements (with a value set to the component name from the block diagram) on each device and net. This is used to identify the associated blocks/devices and highways/nets, when you run the Trace and Compare process between this abstraction and any associated system block abstractions, to synchronize, check, and maintain design correctness.

The system automatically copies all other properties on objects (blocks and highways) from your block design to their respective objects (devices and nets) on the detailed design.
The system also creates Object Type Information (OTI) properties on your detailed design objects (devices and nets) according to the rules described in Table 20.
A mismatch between a property on a block/highway and an OTI property defined on its related device/net on the detailed design object can occur in following scenarios: OTI Type mismatch The Type of a property on the block design object does not match the type defined by an OTI property on its related detailed design object for same property name.
OTI Range restriction violation The Value of a property on an object in your block design is not within the range defined for the OTI property on its related object in the detailed design for the same property name.
List of values restriction violation The value of a property in a block design object does not match any of the list of values for an OTI property on its related object for the same property name.
The system displays a message in the Output Window when it identifies a mismatch or restriction.
| Mismatch or Restriction? | Property Created on Device? | OTI default value overridden? | Value same as block object property? | Property value driven by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No OTI violations or restrictions | Yes | Yes | Yes | Block/Highway |
| OTI Type mismatch | Yes (if OTI auto-assign is checked) | No | No | Device/Net OTI |
| OTI range restriction violation | Yes (if OTI auto-assign is checked) | No | No | Device/Net OTI |
| OTI list restriction violation | Yes (if OTI auto-assign is checked) | No | No | Device/Net OTI |
