Using Batch Sharing

You can use batch sharing to share multiple objects at the same time.

Prerequisites

You have configured Batch Share project preferences as required. (See Batch Share Node entries in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide.
The non-shared objects to share are already added to a design.
The designs in the build list to perform batch sharing on are not locked by other users.

Procedure

In the Project Browser, right-click a Logic build list and select Batch Share. If you have any open designs, the Batch Share message box is displayed to save and close the designs. To continue, click Save & Close.Objects in the build list are matched according to the batch sharing Matching Criteria and the Batch Share Dialog Box is displayed.
In the Display section, ensure that the object type buttons for the objects to share are selected.
In the Selection column in the table, select the objects to share.(Optional) Click the Add Column button () to display extra attributes / properties and design abstractions to assist your selections.

Tip You can click the View Details expander () to display pin/connector details and the attributes and properties of the object selected in the table. For objects that will become instances of existing shared objects (indicated by the value in the Action column being "Share Into" and being non-editable), if you hover over the cell in the Action column, a tooltip indicates which existing shared object, and which revision of that shared object, the object will become an instance of.

If you have selected objects from a group of matching non-shared objects that have no matching existing shared object, use the dropdown lists in the Action column to select which object will be shared to create a new shared object, and which will be shared into that new shared object.
Click Share.
The Confirm Batch Share message box is displayed, click Continue & Save.

Results

The selected objects are shared and become new shared objects or instances of existing shared objects.
Shared objects are created and assigned an “Abstraction” based on the abstraction of the design the object that was “Shared” belongs to. An abstraction is not assigned if the design of the object that was shared did not have one configured.
If you shared an object into another object, the object pins will all be present on the shared object. If pins have matching names, they are merged. The Pin Reservation Status of pins on the shared object depends on their statuses prior to the batch sharing operation and on whether they had any instances on existing shared objects: A pin that, before the batch sharing operation, only had instances on non-shared objects will have a reservation status determined by the setting you have configured in the “Pin reservation status” project preference, see Prerequisites.

A pin that, before the batch sharing operation, had one or more instances on existing shared objects will have the same pin reservation status as it did prior to the batch sharing operation. Note Sharing will not proceed if merging pins would cause an instance of a pin to violate its pin reservation status. This can happen if a reserved pin on an existing shared object has the same name as a pin on a non-shared object that is being shared into the existing shared object, and the two objects are placed on different designs.

In the Output Window, the Batch Share tab displays: If an object was shared successfully the Message column shows whether the object was shared or shared into, the Design column shows the source design of the object that was shared and the Object column shows the object that was shared.

If an object could not be shared: The Severity column indicates (error).

The Message column gives the reason sharing could not proceed.

The Design column shows the design into which the object could not be shared.

The Object column shows the object that could not be shared, unless the design in the Design column could not be accessed, in which case the Object column will be blank.

Note

Depending on the batch sharing configuration you used, batch sharing can cause wires to terminate at more than two pins and can cause connector pins to be mated to multiple device pins. It is therefore recommended that you run Design Rule Checks after performing a batch share.

Tip

If you specify “Match using connectivity” as the matching criterion for wires and then share some devices or connectors, it is possible that more wires match (according to connectivity) after sharing than did so before you shared those devices or connectors. You may therefore want to run batch sharing again, and check whether to share any of the wires that now match each other.
