Using the Propagate Harness Tab

You can identify new, modified, and inconsistent harness attribute values, and choose to propagate values to one or more objects in the connectivity set, using the Propagate Harness tab.

Restrictions and Limitations

Caution

If you propagate harness attribute values to shared objects that exist in other designs, the current open diagram is not saved automatically. However, the values on the shared objects and all the objects in the connectivity sets in the other designs, are updated and saved. This might take some time, impact multiple design objects, and cannot be undone.

Values are propagated to multicores through daisy chains, only if their shields have a common connection.
If any single multicore is updated in a group of multicores that are daisy chained together, the harness values will propagate to all the multicores, only if a shield connection to a pin exists for the daisy chain.
If you delete a harness attribute value or modify the design (not including graphical changes), the information on the tab is cleared. Empty harness attribute values cannot be propagated to objects in the connectivity set. Note If the information on the Propagate Harness tab is cleared, you can modify a harness attribute value in the connectivity set to display further values to propagate.
The harness attribute values are case sensitive, and differences will be reported in the New column as available to propagate.
Objects in designs with a release level status “Released” will not be updated.

Procedure

Add or modify a harness attribute value on an object.The new or modified value and the objects in the connectivity set that are impacted by the harness attribute update, are displayed on the Propagate Harness Tab in the Output Window.
Select or clear the Selection check box to choose whether the harness attribute value in the New column is propagated to the object in the row.If the system identifies objects that would impact other connected objects, such as poke home wires, or objects with multiple harness attributes or shared object connectivity in other designs, the system displays the following information to enable you to decide whether to propagate the values: Warning icon () is displayed to the left of the Object column.

Reason for the warning and the impact to connected objects and designs is displayed in the Message column.

The Selection check box is cleared by default for you to select, if required. Rows without warnings are selected by default.

To propagate the harness attribute values:Click Propagate Selected Rows , to propagate the values to the objects in the selected rows, including any selected warning rows.

Click Propagate All Rows , to propagate the values to all objects, including any cleared warning rows, and resolve the conflicts.

If a shared object exists in multiple designs, two rows are displayed. If selected, the value in the warning row will propagate to the shared objects connectivity in all the designs it is present in. The regular row will update the shared object only. A warning message is displayed before any shared objects are updated. Caution If you propagate harness attribute values to shared objects that exist in other designs, the current open diagram is not saved automatically. However, the values on the shared objects and all the objects in the connectivity sets in the other designs, are updated and saved. This might take some time, impact multiple design objects, and cannot be undone. See “Shared Objects in Connectivity Sets” in the Connectivity Set, for an example of the impact to multiple designs, if you propagate changes to shared objects.

Results

The harness attribute values on the objects are updated on the diagram, and the rows on the Propagate Harness tab are dimmed and the Selection check box is inactive.
If you propagate a value to shared objects, all the updated objects and the impacted designs are displayed on the Propagate Harness tab.
A “tick” () is displayed on the objects if the harness attribute value has been propagated and the update is consistent with the values in the connectivity set.
If you click Propagate Selected Rows, the clear rows are preserved on the Propagate Harness tab, to select and propagate the values later, if required.
