Overview of Capital Schematic Generator for Functional Designs

The Capital Schematic Generator for Functional Designs facility enables you to create functional diagrams based on an existing set of connectivity using specified constraints, instead of manually placing components.

When you generate the diagrams, you can either:

• Specify the new diagrams to create and which connectivity objects to add to each of them.

• Specify to use existing diagrams from another project as a template (or prototype). If a design (for which diagrams have to be generated) and the template are revisions of the same design, functions, signals, and messages are matched first by revisions. If that does not result in a match, they are matched by names.

• Specify to distribute objects across one or more diagrams based on object property values. This distribution is followed by rule-based schematic generation, providing an auto-layout of functions and ports.

In all cases, you specify component styling and layout styling settings.

The facility is invoked:

• Directly against an existing Capital Systems Modeler design, regardless of whether diagrams exist already or not. In this case, the user can select the layout and style preferences to be applied to all diagrams to be generated. See also Generating Filtered Diagrams for a Design.

• As part of the Import Connectivity process to enable you to automatically create multiple diagrams from incoming connectivity files. See also Importing Multiple Connectivity Files and Automatically Creating Diagrams in the Capital Connectors User Guide.

Device Symbols

You can choose whether device symbols in the design are retained and displayed on the generated diagram using the associated symbols in the symbol library. See “Use device symbols” in Specifying Layout Styling When Generating Diagrams for all the available options when generating device symbols.

Note that Capital Schematic Generator for Functional Designs currently only creates parameterized symbols and does not use any library symbols that were defined for objects in diagrams previously. However, you can use Capital Systems Modeler functionality to replace parameterized symbols with library symbols after the diagrams are generated.

Objects With Undistributed Connectivity

You can generate diagrams at any stage of the design process even if some of the connectivity is not distributed. When you generate diagrams, the objects with distributed connectivity are created and any objects with undistributed connectivity are ignored or listed in the Unplaced folders in the Design Browser Window (Design tab) on the lower left of the application interface.
