Associating

Logical Designs With the Topological Design

To place devices and synthesize wiring in a topological design, you must associate one or more designs from Capital Logic Designer with it. When doing this, you associate a specific revision of each design.

You can associate more than one logical design with a single topological design. To do this, you can associate the designs individually or associate a build list.

Prerequisites

  • You must consider to select the “Retain topology properties not defined on associated connector” project preference for Capital Wiring Integrator to control how and when the action overwrites or deletes properties on topological objects. Procedure

To associate the logical design:

  • Press the space bar and enter Associate Logical Designs.

  • Click the Associate Logical Designs button () in the Design Browser (Capital

Wiring Integrator).

The Associate Wiring Designs Dialog Box is displayed and the Associated Designs window displays any logical designs that are associated already.

If you want to... Do the following:
Associate individual designs Click the Managed by Build List dropdown list and select None. Click the Add associated designs button (); the Add Selected Logical Design Dialog Box is displayed. In the Logical designs window, select the logical designs to associate and click Add Selected; the logical designs are added to the Associated Designs window in the Associate Wiring Designs dialog box. An icon () is displayed next to the added designs. If you add a design that is a newer revision of an already associated design, the following indicates that the new one will replace the old: Click OK to save the changes.
Associate a build list Click the Managed by Build List dropdown list and select the build list; the design revisions from the build list are displayed in the Associated Designs window. Click OK to associate the design revisions from the build list.

Tip

When associating individual designs, you can select the design in the Associated Designs window and click the Remove associated designs button () to remove the association with a logical design. An icon () displays to indicate that the association will be removed when you click OK.

Results

  • The Wiring Browser lists the devices, connectors, multicores, splices, and wires from the associated Capital Logic Designer designs. If a logical device has the same name as a topology slot, the device is placed in the slot (unless constraints dictate otherwise).

  • If a harness connector has the same name as a slot connector on the Capital Wiring Integrator diagram, an association is created between them. If a device connector is attached to a harness connector in the Capital Logic Designer design, a device connector is created as a separate object that is connected to the slot connector. The device connector is added to the Design Browser (Capital Wiring Integrator).

  • If an inline plug connector or an inline receptacle connector from the Capital Logic Designer designs has the same name as one in the topology diagram, an association is created between them.

  • Wires associated with bundles in the topology diagram are added to the Design Browser, under the Unassigned node or, if grouped into Signals, under the Signals node.

  • Any items that have not been placed or routed are dimmed in the Wiring Browser.

  • The Sync Tab displays any messages or errors related to this action.
