Symbol Browser

The Symbol Browser is located on the lower left side of the application window and is opened by clicking the Symbol tab.

Browser tree Lists symbols that are available for you to use on diagrams. To expand a folder click the plus sign (+). To collapse a folder, click the minus sign (-). Tip You can navigate through the tree using the up and down arrows on your keyboard.

To launch Capital Symbol Designer, right‑click a symbol library or symbol name and select Edit Symbol. Capital Symbol Designer launches in a separate window with the appropriate library / symbol open. To add a symbol to the currently active diagram, double-click the symbol name, and then click the diagram to place the symbol.

Symbol preview pane Used to view a symbol before adding it to a diagram. The Show Origin check box specifies whether the symbol origin should be indicated in the symbol preview pane (selected) or not indicated in the symbol preview pane (cleared).
String-based filter ( / ) In the field next to the Enter Filter String icon () enter a series of characters. A filter is applied to the browser tree so that only symbols with names containing that series of characters are listed.

The behavior of the filter varies depending on whether you use wildcards and the case (upper or lower) of the specified characters. See also “Browser Tab and Dialog Box Filters” in the Capital Design Tools - Common Functions User Guide. Click the Clear Filter String icon () to clear the filter.

Filter dropdown list () Select an option in the dropdown list to filter the symbols displayed in the browser tree to those of a particular object type.

Tip

You can press Space Bar and enter Toggle Browser Area to show / hide the Symbol Browser and other browsers.
