Shared Objects and Domains

Overview

The system evaluates the domains created in Capital Access Manager, the domain access on your user account, and the available domains at the project level of the design, to determine your authorization level and list the available domains in the design.

You can assign domains to shared objects and specify domain access to restrict access to shared objects for certain user accounts:

  • User 1 (read-write) – Can view and edit shared objects, and assign or edit domains.

  • User 2 (read-only) – Can view, add, and export shared objects.

  • User 3 (no domain access) – Cannot open designs that contain shared objects assigned with a domain.

Managing the user accounts enables you to protect the shared object data from unauthorized modifications in the design:

  • Create restricted shared objects.

  • Create shared objects that are owned by different users.

  • Enable read-only access for specific users.

  • Enable multiple users to access a single shared object.

  • Prevent unauthorized access to shared object data across designs.

Domain Access

The Domain Access on your user account determines if you can access shared objects with assigned domains. You must have read-write access on at least one domain assigned to the shared objects, to access and edit shared objects in the design. See “Assigning and Editing Domains on a User Account” in the Capital Access Manager User Guide, to control domain access for specific users.

In the following example, the shared objects in red contain information that is confidential and must only be accessed by authorized users with read-write access on the domain that is assigned to the shared objects. The restricted users cannot view the confidential shared objects because their read-write access is on different domains that are assigned to conductors and connectors.

In the following example, only users with read-write access on the domain that matches the domain assigned on the shared objects, can modify the objects in the design. Multiple users can be assigned access to the same shared objects, for example DEV1.

If you open a design, all the shared objects that are restricted by the domain access on your user account are hidden on the Shared Objects Browser (), and you cannot edit or add the shared object to the design.

Restriction

You cannot open or export a design that includes an instance of a restricted shared object. See Capital Logic Designer Restrictions, for additional restrictions based on the domain access on your user account.

Available

Domains

You must select the domains in the “Allowed Domains for Parts, Symbol libraries, ICDs and Shared Objects” project preference, to display the available domains when Assigning Domains on Shared Objects using the following dialog boxes:

  • Add Shared Dialog Boxes

  • Edit Shared Dialog Boxes

  • Share Dialog Box [Devices, Connectors and Splices]

  • Share Dialog Box [Multicores and Overbraids]

You can click the ellipsis button (...) in the Domains field, to open the Assign Domains Dialog Box and specify the required domains.

The Available panel lists the domains you have access to, and the Selected panel lists the domains that are assigned to the shared object.

When multiple domains are assigned to a shared object that you have a range of domain access to (read-only, read-write, and no access), you can edit the object and the Domains field, if you have read-write access to at least one of the domains assigned to the shared object.

Note

During a Share-into action any domains that are already assigned on the object being shared into are ignored or removed.
