Using Devices

You can place a device on a harness diagram by associating it with a part from the library. Once added, you can move, edit, or delete the device as required.

Procedure

Determine the action you want to take:

If you want to... Do the following...
Add a Device Press Space Bar and enter Device. The cursor changes to . Right-click to place the device: If you click a node, the device is placed, anchored at that node. If you click a bundle, the Node Position Utility Dialog Box is displayed and a new reference node is created to locate the device. You can also enable variant positioning and anchor the device to any reference node on the same bundle. See also “Variant Position Reference Nodes” in the Node Position Utility dialog box. If you click an empty area of the diagram, the device is placed in free space prior to positioning on the harness (see “Move a Device”). The Add Device Dialog Box is displayed. Note If you press Ctrl when you place the component, the Add Device dialog box is not displayed. Manually specify any required attributes. (Optional) Click the ellipsis (...) button to the right of the Library Part field. The Part Selection Dialog Box is displayed to search for and insert a device from the library. The associated device is displayed in the Library Part field. For dressed devices, select a route on the Routes tab. Click OK to place the device on the diagram. The display of the device is controlled by the style set associated with the diagram. The device is added to the Harness Design Browser.
Edit a Device Select one of the entities related to the device: Structure node at which the device is placed. Device cavity table. Primary device symbol. Either: Press Space Bar and enter Edit. Right-click the selected entity and select Edit Device. Double-click one of the related entities. The Edit Device Dialog Box is displayed. Note Depending on behavior settings specified at the Project level, you might be prohibited from creating or modifying certain object attributes and properties. These are displayed as read-only. In general, it is only Capital Logic Designer, topographical, and electrical attributes and properties that are protected, and these should be modified prior to any import into Capital Harness Designer / Modular. Other harness design attributes can still be modified as required. Modify the attributes or properties. You can also add or remove any device library part number. Click OK to save the changes.
Move a Device Right-click the device on the diagram or in the Harness Design Browser and select Move Device. The cursor changes to . Position the cursor over the node to which you want to move the device. The cursor changes to . Click to place the cursor at the new node. The device is moved to the new node. Note If the device was originally placed in an empty part of the diagram, and a structure node was created automatically. This node is deleted when the device is moved.
Delete a Device Note You can use the extend selection function to select all connected wires and multicores for deletion at the same time. See Extending a Selection. Select one of the entities related to the device: Structure node at which the device is placed. Device cavity table. Primary device symbol. Either: Press Space Bar and enter Delete. Right-click the selected entity and select Delete. Press the Delete key. The device is removed from the design and from the Harness Design Browser. If the device was anchored at a reference node, with no other components anchored at the same node, the node is removed. Wires and multicores included in any extended selection are deleted.
