Part Selection
This routine selects appropriate library parts and calculates all of the dimensions needed to generate a fully engineered bill of materials.

Revision
The part number selection process considers the part revision (see also “Library Part Revision” in the Capital Component Manager - User Guide) of available library part numbers as follows:
If the object does not have a library part number assigned, only the latest revisions of library parts will be considered for selection.
If the object already has a part number assigned: If the existing library part number and revision are still applicable, the library part number and revision remain assigned to the object. Note Where you have applied factors (see also “Housing Tab”) to cavity components in housing definitions, the following rules also apply: If a part number is already assigned and this part is still applicable and there is no other valid part with a higher factor, the part number remains assigned. (Parts without factor have the same priority) If a part number is already assigned and this part is still applicable but there is another applicable part with a higher factor, the process will select the other valid part with the higher factor.
However, if the library part number and revision are no longer applicable (see Note), the process will try to select a new one. Only latest revisions of library parts are considered for selection. Note A part number may no longer be applicable if, for example, the librarian has changed the part specification (for instance where a terminal originally configured to crimp a 1.0 wire has been changed by the librarian to crimp only a 0.75 wire).
If there are multiple applicable latest revision library parts, (for example, where there are multiple matching latest revision terminals in a connector's housing definition) the process will select the valid part number that was created first. You can control selection in these cases by setting a Factor on the parts in the housing definition. See also “Housing Tab” in the Capital Component Manager - User Guide.
Additionally, if the latest revision of the previously assigned library part number is among the set of applicable parts, it will be selected. A message will be generated to inform the user about this change
- You can run the “Library part not latest revision” Design Rule Check to identify part numbers on the design that are not at the latest revision.

Selection during Harness Processing
The following actions can be performed:
Select All Part Numbers This action invokes all available part selection actions as a single action.
Select Wire Part Numbers This action analyzes each “single” wire (that is, not part of a sheathed or bought in twisted-pair multicore) to determine a matching part number from Capital Component Manager.
Select Multicore Part Numbers This action analyzes each non “in-house” pair Multicore cable to determine a matching part number from Capital Component Manager.
Select Customer Part Numbers This action analyzes each applicable design object to determine a valid customer part number. The customer name of the current harness design is used to request a part number from Capital Component Manager. The following design objects are subject to customer part number selection Connectors

- Select Supplier Part Numbers This action analyzes each applicable design object to determine a valid supplier part number. The following design objects are subject to supplier part number selection Connectors

Select Mandatory Component Part Numbers This action selects or re-selects mandatory component part numbers for any objects marked as requiring them. Mandatory components will be added to each cavity based on the presence of a terminal, cavity seal or cavity plug. Any manually added cavity components will be retained.
Select Splice / Ultrasonic Weld / Solder Sleeve Part Numbers These actions select or re-select any splice, ultrasonic weld and solder sleeve part numbers for all splice objects. Solder Sleeves Min / Max Total CSA Consideration The selection process uses the following calculations to determine the total CSA of all the wires present at the solder sleeve. The calculated total CSA must be within the Min / Max Total CSA range defined on a library part for that part to be considered for selection: Default method: Total CSA = sum of all wires CSA terminated at the splice
Where the shield of a multicore is terminated in the solder sleeve, you can choose a different calculation method that takes into account the outside diameter/CSA of the multicore instead of the sum of its inner cores. To configure this method you must set the project preference Use Multicore Outer dia. for Solder Sleeve Selection to YES. In such cases the total CSA is calculated as follows: Total CSA = sum of all single wires (excluding the shield) CSA terminated at the splice + CSA of the multicore Note The process uses the following formula to calculate the CSA of the multicore from its outside diameter (OD) value .
Solder Sleeves Min / Max Single Wire CSA Consideration Default check — The selection process checks the CSA of all single wires (including individual multicore inner wires) terminating at the solder sleeve. Each wire CSA must be within the Min / Max Single Wire CSA range defined on a library part for that part to be considered for selection.
Where the shield of a multicore is terminated in the solder sleeve, you can choose a different method that checks the CSA of all single wires and the CSA of the multicore (instead of each of its individual inner wires). To configure this method you must set the project preference Use Multicore Outer dia. for Solder Sleeve Selection to YES. The process uses the Total CSA formula to calculate the CSA of the multicore from its outside diameter.
Select Heat Shrink Part Numbers This action selects or re-selects heat shrink sleeve part numbers for any splice objects marked as requiring Heat-Shrink Sleeve insulation application.
Select Spot Tape Part Numbers This action selects or re-selects spot tape application for any splice objects marked as requiring Spot Tape insulation application.
Select Tube Part Numbers This action selects or re-selects tube application for any Selected Tube, Selected Cut-back Tube or Selected Pulled-back Tube objects marked as requiring tube application. “Tube Part Number Selection Rules”
- Select Cavity Components This action analyzes each connector and device and selects, re-selects, or removes components from each cavity (terminal, cavity seal, cavity plug, additional components, and backshell plugs). The actions are based on the setting of the various attributes on the Add Connector Dialog Box and the Add Device Dialog Box. Seal Selection: Where “Sealed” is selected, each cavity containing one or more wires will be considered for seal selection. Where “Select Seal” is cleared, any existing cavity seal will be retained. Where “Sealed” in cleared, any existing cavity seals will be removed.
Cavity Plug Selection: Where “Plugs Required” is selected, any cavities containing no wires will be considered for plug selection. Where “Plugs Required” is cleared, any existing cavity plug will be removed.
Backshell Seal Selection: Where “Backshell Seal Required” is selected, the system will attempt to select a matching backshell seal as defined in the housing definition of the connector. Where “Backshell Seal Required” is cleared, any existing backshell seal will be removed. The system identifies a matching backshell seal where the minimum / maximum CSA value for each cavity within the connector (where multiple cavity details exist, the minimum / maximum CSA value of each cavity detail per cavity) is within the minimum / maximum Total CSA range defined on the backshell seal library part.
Backshell Seal Plug Selection: Where “Backshell Plugged” is selected and the connector has a backshell seal automatically selected, if the backshell seal selection is marked as “Pre Cut” in Capital Component Manager, backshell seal plugs will be requested from Capital Component Manager.
Removal of invalid / inappropriate components: Where existing components exist that are no longer valid in Capital Component Manager, the components will be removed from the cavity. Where a terminal or seal is present in a cavity containing no wires, the terminal / seal will be removed.
Additional Cavity Component Selection: All existing mandatory additional cavity components are removed from each cavity. Mandatory components will be added to each cavity based on the presence of a terminal, cavity seal, or cavity plug. Any manually added cavity components will be retained.
Terminals for Empty Cavities:
Where "Unwired Terminals Required" is selected, any cavities
containing no wires will be considered for terminal
selection.
