Origin Attribute

Design objects in a harness design are automatically created with an “Origin” attribute / value, that identifies their original authoring tool. The system uses this attribute value, in conjunction with the Design Content Control preference settings and Change Policies, to control the editing of objects on the design.

Design objects can be created manually, through harness synchronization or bridging in from an external source. Table 8 shows the “Origin” attribute values that are set from each authoring method, and the values obtained by the API.

Figure 57: Origin Attribute Creation Flow

Method Data is Created Origin Attribute Value Value Returned by API
Manually created in the harness design Capital Harness Designer Harness Design
Synchronized / Bridged (X2ML) from Capital Logic Designer Capital Logic Designer Logic Design
Synchronized / Bridged (X2ML / HX2ML) from Capital Wiring Integrator Capital Wiring Integrator Integrator Design
Synchronized / Bridged (X2ML / HX2ML) from Capital Systems Integrator Capital Systems Integrator Capital Topology Design
Bridged in from external source External System External

During harness synchronization:

  • If the object type policy for the “Origin” attribute “Create” is prohibited, the “Origin” value is set to “Capital Harness Designer”.

  • If the object type policy for the “Origin” attribute “Update” is prohibited, the “Origin” value is not changed.

The attribute displays read-only on the Add and Edit dialog boxes for all harness design objects in the design.

Bridging Data

You can use Capital Harness and Wiring Connectors to bridge data out of the following tools into Capital Harness Designer / Capital Harness Designer Modular.

  • Capital Logic Designer (X2ML)

  • Capital Wiring Integrator (X2ML / HX2ML)

  • Capital Systems Integrator (X2ML / HX2ML)

The data is transfered in “Capital 3D Harness” and “Capital 3D wiring” (X2ML / HX2ML) file format.

When you bridge out the X2ML / HX2ML file, the “Origin” value of any relevant objects is updated with the appropriate design application name.

When you bridge the X2ML / HX2ML file into Capital Harness Designer / Modular, if the objects in the X2ML / HX2ML have an attribute “Origin” with a value defined, the attribute and value are imported against the objects (in accordance with change policy settings for the Origin attribute). If the any of the objects in the X2ML / HX2ML file do not have an “Origin” attribute \ value, the system creates one with the value “External”.

Use the Include_Origin_Attribute setting in the bridges.properties file to control how the system processes the “Origin” attribute during the bridge in / out processing. See also Internal Processing in the Capital Connectors User Guide.
