Promoting a Splice
You can promote a non-shared splice to be a new shared object or an instance of an existing shared object.

Prerequisites
- The non-shared splice that you want to promote has already been added to the design. See Adding a Splice Without a Library Part or Symbol.

Procedure
- To open the Share Dialog Box [Devices, Connectors and Splices]:Select the splice to promote, press the space bar and enter Share.
Right-click the splice to promote and select Share.
- Choose one of the following actions:Create New Select to create a new shared object. Specify a name and revision for the object. If the existing name was generated using Advanced Naming Functionality and you want it to continue to be treated as a generated name, select Generated.
Share Into Select to make the splice an instance of an existing shared object. Select the existing shared object in the list. Note Objects with library part associations can only be shared into shared objects that have the same library part associated. Splices created based on a symbol can only be shared into shared objects that have the same symbol.
- Click OK.
Results
The splice is promoted to a shared splice. If you have created a new splice, it is added to the Shared Objects Browser.
If you shared the object into an existing shared object, properties and attributes on the objects are merged:
For Analysis-related attributes (such as Analysis Model) and for the Assembly attribute, the value on the existing shared object is retained and the value on the object being promoted is discarded. See also “Attaching Component Models” in the Capital Analysis User Guide.
For other attributes and for properties: If the object being promoted or the existing shared object has properties or attributes that the other object does not have, they are retained on the shared object.
If the object being promoted has property or attribute values that conflict with values on the existing shared object, the Resolve Conflicting Attributes and Properties Dialog Box displays and the values selected in that dialog box are retained and the other values are discarded.
In the Output Window, the Resolution tab is displayed. The table in the Resolution tab lists any property or attribute values in the object being promoted that were in conflict with those in the existing shared object, and shows how those conflicts were resolved. Properties/attributes that may require adjustment (such as when the value of the Analysis Model attribute was changed) are indicated by the value of the Type field being “Warning”.
Note
In Capital Logic Designer you cannot add a pin to a (shared or non-shared) splice. You can create multi-pin splices in Capital Component Manager based on a symbol, and you can create multi-pin shared splices based on a symbol (with or without a library part association) in Capital Project Manager. See “Splices” in the Capital Component Manager User Guide or “Shared Splice” in the Capital Project Manager User Guide.
You cannot add a symbol to a shared splice that was created without a symbol. Pins on shared splices are always unrestricted. When you add a new instance of a shared splice, all the pins in the shared object definition are added to the new instance. When you create more than one instance of a shared object, cross‑references are displayed next to the instances on the diagrams. See Cross-References on Objects or Pins.
