Using Fetch Related and Fetch Related Extended

Actions to Complete Wiring Diagrams

The Fetch Related and Fetch Related Extended actions enable authors to complete wiring diagrams efficiently while ensuring quality. These actions retrieve directly connected objects automatically without the risk of any inadvertent changes to the connections, if these changes were to be done manually.

Any connectivity that you wish to create on your service diagrams must be in an active build list. You must also have full read write permissions for the designs you are adding to the build list, if not an error is reported. The functionality does not enable you to make changes to the original design connectivity from Capital E/E Publisher; the essence of the connectivity is not altered, only its schematic representation.

The Fetch Related and Fetch Related Extended actions can be invoked from a device, device pins, connector, connector pins, wires, splices, and so on. Connectivity will be traced between two pins of device only if any internal links or nets exist. If links or nets do not exist, the last device (to which connectivity has been traced) with its pin will be populated. Failures (if any) are reported in output window report.

Objects shared as part of Fetch Related actions can not be unshared even if the action is cancelled. The undo action is not available once Fetch Related actions are executed. Additionally Ground symbols are also supported by the functionality. Any fetched objects can also be deleted from your diagram by right-clicking the object and selecting delete from the context menu.

Two modes of operation are offered. Firstly a normal mode, which fetches only specific pins connected to selected objects. Secondly, an extended mode which fetches the complete pin list connected to selected objects.

Please note: the Fetch Related and Fetch Related Extended actions do not support connectivity containing m:n connector refinement.
