Relaxing the Barred Cable

Routing Rule

The Barred Cable routing rule is used to select a cable (A) and then specify one or more cables (B) as barred cables. This creates an instruction to the Auto‑Router that cables A and B must not share any segment in the cable route; however, this can be restrictive and result in unavailable routes.

You can relax this rule to enable the Auto-Router to find a route that can include shared segments. If the route includes shared segments, the route is marked as successful with violations.

For example, you can route two cables along different routes to avoid a single point of failure between the same two devices, and permit the cables to share the same segments at the start and/or end of the routes. They may also share segments in the middle of the route depending on the network topology.

If a route is identified with violations, the Auto‑Router will attempt to find a route with the shortest length of violating segments.

To relax the Barred Cable routing rule, System Administrators must associate the “Allow relaxed barred cable enforcement via SPS” attribute with the ADMIN and ATTRADMIN user roles, and the project where relaxing the rule is required.

Restrictions and Limitations

If you relax the Barred Cable rule, the barred cables cannot share Principal segments. The Auto-Router can only attempt to share Secondary segments on the nodal network.
Routing on a segment leading to a Point segment automatically adds the Point segment to the route.

Procedure

Perform the following steps using Capital Cable Router Admin:

Associate the attribute with the ADMIN and ATTRADMIN user role.	Double-click General administration > System Administration > Attributes > Attribute Definitions & Permissions. The Attribute Permissions window is displayed. Click the Enter query conditions button (). Type 96000519 in the Attribute field, and then click the Execute query button () to open the “Allow relaxed barred cable enforcement via SPS” attribute. Click the Create new record button (). Type ADMIN in the Role field, and then click the Description field to populate the description. Click the Save button () to save the association. Repeat Steps 4 to 6 to create the association with the ATTRADMIN user role. Click the Close button () to close the Attribute Permissions window.
Add the attribute to the ICEPROJ attribute group.	Double-click General administration > System Administration > Attributes > Group Definitions, Applications & Permissions. The Attribute Group Definitions window is displayed. Click the Enter query conditions button (). Type ICEPROJ in the Group Code field, and then click the Execute query button () to list the attributes in the group. Click the Create new record button (). Type 96000519 in the Attribute Code field, and then click the Description field to populate the description. Click the Save button () to save the ICEPROJ group in the system. Click the Close button () to close the Attribute Group Definitions window.
Associate the attribute with a specific project.	Double-click General administration > System Administration > Project setup > Project Hierarchy. The Project Hierarchy window is displayed. Select the project identifier to highlight the project to associate with the attribute. Click the Attribute Values button (). The Attribute Instance Values window is displayed. Click the Attribute Code field to display the Optional Attributes dialog box, and then select the 96000519 attribute in the ICEPROJ group. Click OK to add the attribute to the project and display the Attribute Instance Value dialog box. Specify the New Value Y to activate the attribute, and then click Accept. Tip You can specify the New Value N to re‑activate the Barred Cable rule and restrict cables from sharing segments in specific projects. Click the Save button () to associate the attribute with the project. Click the Close button () to close the Attribute Instance Values window.
