Adding a Stow Wire
Stow wires are electrically unconnected wires that are incorporated into a harness during manufacture for a variety of reasons:
To ensure that a spare wire is available should a breakage occur once the harness is installed in the vehicle.
To offer support for future enhancements to a harness’s connectivity.
To increase the strength of a harness where the termination of only a few wires at a connector could result in a potential weak point and the termination of additional, electrically unconnected wires could increase the strength of the join.
Adding a stow wire to a design involves adding a splice or splices at which only the stow wire will terminate. As no other wires will terminate at such splices, the stow wire is electrically unconnected. There are two types of stow wire:
Full-length stow - a wire that runs the full length of the bundle.
Mid-bundle stow - a wire that runs from a connector to a stow point splice.
Procedure
In Capital Component Manager, create a new splice part with Part Number set to “STOW”, and ensure that Include On BOM is cleared. See also “Creating a Splice” in the Capital Component Manager User Guide.
In Capital Logic Designer:To create a full-length stow wire, place two splices onto the diagram using the STOW library part.
To create a mid-bundle stow wire to increase the strength of a connector join, add one splice to a diagram using the STOW library part. (You will terminate the other end of the stow wire at a connector pin.)
Tip Give the splices names that identify them as stow points, such as “STOW1”, “STOW2”. See Adding a Splice From Capital Component Manager.
Set the Harness attribute for the stow point splices. See Specifying the Harness Attribute for an Object.
Add a wire between the two splices, or between the splice and a connector pin, and set its Harness attribute. See Adding / Modifying / Deleting a Wire.Note You can create additional stow wires as required, but in each case, add subsequent splices at which to terminate the wire, otherwise the stow wires will be considered electrically connected. The stow wires can be synchronized into a harness design in Capital Harness Designer. If the splices exist in Capital Harness Designer already, they are matched by name and the stow wire is placed. If the splices do not exist, they are added to the bottom of the harness diagram and you must use the Move action to place them.
